Language options

You can set language preferences for the ArcGIS Pro application and help system.

To open the Language options, follow these steps:

  1. From an open project, click the Project tab on the ribbon. Or, from the ArcGIS Pro start page, click About ArcGIS Pro in the lower left corner.
  2. In the list on the left, click Options.
  3. On the Options dialog box, under Application, click Language.

Display language (requires language pack installation)

You can run a translated version of ArcGIS Pro by adding a language pack to the ArcGIS Pro application. When a language pack is installed, the ArcGIS Pro user interface text can display your preferred language. You can obtain a language pack from your distributor or the My Esri website where you downloaded the program.

By default, the Microsoft Windows display language sets the language for ArcGIS Pro. For example, if you installed a German language pack for ArcGIS Pro and your Windows display language is also German, ArcGIS Pro runs in German automatically.

If you want to run ArcGIS Pro with a display language different from Windows, under Display language (requires language pack installation), clear the Match Microsoft Windows check box and choose the display language from the list of available installed languages. To return ArcGIS Pro to the Windows display language, check Match Microsoft Windows. Restart ArcGIS Pro to see your changes.

Keep in mind that this option only changes the display language of the ArcGIS Pro user interface. It does not affect functionality related to number and date formatting or character encoding, which are controlled by your Windows region settings. In addition, this setting is for ArcGIS Pro only and does not update other ArcGIS Desktop applications that may be installed on the same machine.

Proofing language

The list of available languages corresponds to the list of language packs for Windows installed on your computer. Use the Language Control Panel in Windows to add languages and download operating system language packs. After a new language pack is installed, the language will be available as a Proofing language list in ArcGIS Pro.

Note:
On the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems, the Proofing language setting will not be available. On these operating systems, spell check is only available for English, Spanish, French, and German, and the proofing language is controlled by changing the Display language for ArcGIS Pro.

Online help system language

When you set the display language, the help language updates, too. If needed, you can change the language of the online help system. Under Online help system language, you can specify the language for the ArcGIS Pro online help system. By default, the online help system language option is set to Match display language. If you want the online help to display in a different language, clear the Match display language check box and choose the display language from the list of available online help languages. Restart ArcGIS Pro to see your changes.

Offline help system language (requires local help installation)

When you set the display language, the help language updates, too. If needed, you can change the language of the offline help system. Under Offline help system language (requires local help installation), you can specify the language for the ArcGIS Pro offline help system. By default, the offline help system language option is set to Match display language. If you want the offline help to display in a different language, clear the Match display language check box and choose the display language from the list of available installed languages. To view offline help in your language, you first need to install the ArcGIS Pro language pack. Restart ArcGIS Pro to see your changes.
