Configure a feature template

In the Template Properties dialog box, you can configure a feature template's name, searchable tags, tools that appear on the tool palette, and the attribute values that are applied to new features. Symbology is a property of the feature layer.

Additional tabs appear in the dialog box under the following conditions:

  • The Relationship tab appears when a table exists in the map, and the table participates in a relationship class as the destination, and the feature class as the origin. You can add one or more component table templates to a feature template.
  • The Annotation tab appears when a feature template creates annotation features. You can set the default text string and use the formatting tools to set the font type, style, and size of the text.

One or more feature templates can be created for the same layer and configured with different tools and attribute values. When you add new data to an active map or scene, a feature template is automatically created for each new layer with default settings.

For steps to create a feature template manually, see Create a feature template.
