Filter and search for templates

In the Create Features pane and the Manage Templates pane, you can filter, search, and sort feature templates. You can use preset filters or type a text string to find templates that create specific content in your map or project. Search criteria is not case-sensitive.

Group templates are filtered based on their primary template. Preset templates are filtered based on the highlighted layer and geometry type when the template was created.

Filter templates

The Filter Filter drop-down menus include presets for filtering templates by feature type, template type, or layer settings such as editability or visibility. A green check mark Filter Enabled indicates that a filter is enabled.

Create features

The Create Features pane displays templates defined for the active map.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click Create Create Features.

    The Create Features pane appears.

  2. Click Filter Filter, hover over Filter By, and click one of the following filters:
    • Point—Shows templates only for point feature layers.
    • Line—Shows templates only for polyline feature layers.
    • MultiPatch—Shows templates only for multipatch feature layers.
    • Polygon—Shows templates only for polygon feature layers.
    • Annotation—Shows templates only for annotation feature layers.
    • Z Aware—Shows templates only for z-enabled feature layers.
    • Group—Shows only group templates.
    • Preset—Shows only preset templates.
    • Contents Selection—Shows only the templates for visible layers.
    • No filtering—Shows all feature templates.

Manage templates

The Manage Templates pane displays templates defined for the entire project.

  1. On the Edit tab in the Features group, click the Manage Templates dialog box launcher Launcher.

    The Manage Templates pane appears.

  2. Click Filter Filter, hover over Filter By, and click one of the following filters:
    • Point—Shows only point feature layers and templates.
    • Line—Shows only polyline feature layers and templates.
    • MultiPatch—Shows only multipatch feature layers and templates.
    • Polygon—Shows only polygon feature layers and templates.
    • Annotation—Shows only annotation feature layers and templates.
    • Z Aware—Shows only z-enabled feature layers and templates.
    • Group—Shows only feature layers with group templates.
    • Preset—Shows only feature layers with preset templates.
    • Editable Layer Only—Shows only editable feature layers and templates.
    • Layer with Templates Only—Shows only feature layers with templates.
    • Layer without Templates Only—Shows only feature layers with no templates.
    • No filtering—Shows all layers and templates.

Search for templates

In the Search text box, you can type a text string or part of a text string that is stored with the template to filter the list. It is not case-sensitive. For example, you can type a template name or part of a name, a description, a layer, or a tag keyword.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, open one of the following panes:
    • Click Create Features Create Features.
    • Click the Manage Templates dialog box launcher Launcher.
  2. In the Search text box, type a word or part of a word that is stored with a template and press Enter; for example, type overhead.

    Feature templates matching your search criteria appear in the pane.

  3. Click the search box Delete icon Delete to delete the filter and show all templates.
  4. Click the search box drop-down arrow, and do one of the following:
    • In the Recent Searches section, click a search entry to restore the filter.
    • Click Clear History to delete all of your previous searches.
    Note:

    Your search history is available in the drop-down list until you clear it or close the project.

Sort templates

On the Filter Filter drop-down menu, Group By sorts templates by geometry type, by layer, or in alphanumeric order.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, open one of the following panes:
    • Click Create Features Create Features.
    • Click the Manage Templates dialog box launcher Launcher.
  2. Click Filter Filter, hover over Group By, and click one of the following:
    • Geometry Type—Sorts templates by the geometry type they create.
    • Layer—Sorts templates by the layer on which they create features.
    • No Grouping—Sorts templates in alphanumeric order.
