Share a web map or scene for Indoor Viewer

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the Indoors extension.

The key component of any ArcGIS app is the maps and scenes that provide the spatial experience. You can configure the Indoor Viewer app to use web maps and web scenes shared from ArcGIS Pro. Web maps can contain feature layers or map image layers, and web scenes contain scene services. There are pros and cons to each type of implementation, as well as different requirements for sharing to ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online. Consult your organization to decide which one to implement.

Note:

• If you created a scene, you need to accompany it with a web map.
• To host application services on your Enterprise portal, Indoors requires the use of Portal for ArcGIS 10.7 or later to host application services. Check with your GIS system administrator to ensure your Enterprise installation is fully configured and free from issues before sharing.

Share the route and closest facility web layers

You can share network and closest facility solvers to enable point-to-point routing and proximity-based sorting of search results. To share your indoor network for use in Indoor Viewer, you must share the network data and closest facility web layers to your Enterprise portal.

Note:

You can publish route and closest facility layers to your Enterprise portal only. Sharing to ArcGIS Online is not supported. However, once it's published, you can share this network analysis from your portal to ArcGIS Online.

Complete the following steps to share the closest the facility solver:

1. Sign in to your Enterprise portal in ArcGIS Pro.
2. Create a map in ArcGIS Pro and add the network dataset for your site.
3. Create a closest facility analysis layer.
4. Create a route analysis layer.
5. Share the analysis layers.
   1. Click the Share tab.
   2. In the Share As group, click Publish Web Layer.
   3. Click the Configuration tab.
   4. Check the Network Analysis check box in the Capabilities section.

   5. Click Analyze and fix any errors.
   6. Click Publish.

The closest facility service can now enable sorting of search results by distance.

Share a web map

When sharing, there are several options on the Share tab. By default, the map is shared as a web map with map image layers, but Indoors requires additional steps if you want to use that option.

Note:

• It’s recommended that you share a web map with map image layers to provide better support for symbology scales, advanced cartography, and performance and scalability. However, Enterprise doesn’t support mixing feature layers with layers derived from an individual map image layer. If you chose to share an Indoors web map with map image layers and it includes feature layers, these layers are moved above the Indoors map image layers in the table of contents of the output web map. If you require more precise control over the drawing order of the map’s contents, it’s recommended that you share the web map with feature layers instead of with map image layers.
• Web maps with an image layer configuration can only be shared to Enterprise. Feature layer–based web maps can be shared to your ArcGIS Online organization or your Enterprise portal. Choose the share configuration that best defines your organization needs.

Share a web map with map image layers

If you're sharing a web map with map image layers, complete the following steps:

1. Make sure you're connected to your Enterprise portal in ArcGIS Pro.

   Note:

   Sharing map image layers is not available with ArcGIS Online. However, you can share these map image layers on your own server or portal and reference them in ArcGIS Online.

2. If your map contains a range slider, make sure it's disabled.
3. Share a web map containing map image layers.

   Tip:

   For Select a Configuration, select the Reference Registered Data: Exploratory option.

4. Optionally, share the Areas or IndoorsConfig tables to your portal by right-clicking each table and choosing Sharing > Share As Table.
5. Fill out the parameters and click Publish.
6. Add the required table manually when configuring Indoor Viewer.

Share a web map with feature layers

To share a web map with feature layers, complete the following steps:

1. Make sure you're connected to your Enterprise portal or ArcGIS Online organization in ArcGIS Pro.
2. Follow the standard steps to share a web map containing feature layers.

Tip:

For Select a Configuration, select the Copy all data: Exploratory option.

Share a web scene

There are additional requirements for web scene sharing to be successful.

You can share a web scene to your Enterprise portal or ArcGIS Online organization as a scene service. There are a few differences in the experience from sharing web maps. If you click the Content tab in the Share Web Scene pane, you can see the list of web layers that will be shared with your organization to support the scene service itself.

Tip:

Use the Analyze command before sharing to find inconsistencies and potential problems before the map or scene is shared. Fixing the issues that the analysis finds, such as improper caching when you click Share from the Share pane, will help ensure successful publishing.

Confirm the web map or scene was shared

If you shared a web map, either map image layers or feature layers support it, depending on the option you chose in the Share pane.

If you shared a web scene, you can add it to the Indoor Viewer web app using its ID or by choosing the web scene in the interactive Indoor Viewer web app template configuration.

It’s recommended that you sign in to your Enterprise portal or ArcGIS Online organization that was used to share the web map or scene and verify that they operate correctly in Map Viewer or Scene Viewer.

In addition, you can set the accessibility of the map or scene to other members or groups in your organization. In your Enterprise portal or ArcGIS Online organization, you can share the services the app uses with everyone who needs to use the app.

Note:

• If the services are not shared to everyone, the app asks users to sign in with their organization's credentials, and they cannot use the app until they do.
• If all services are shared to everyone, anyone can use the app without signing in.
