Change parcel type

Parcels are added to the parcel fabric as parcel types. Use the Add Parcel Type geoprocessing tool to add parcel types to your parcel fabric. You can add as many parcel types as necessary for your organization.

Learn more about parcel types

Parcels can be transferred to a different parcel type and subtype using the Change Parcel Type command Change Parcel Type in the Tools gallery on the Parcels ribbon.

You can use the Chang Parcel Type command to do the following:

  • Change parcels to a different parcel type.
  • Change parcel subtypes to a different subtype in the same parcel type.
  • Change parcel subtypes to a different subtype in a different parcel type.
  • Change parcel seeds to a different parcel type or subtype.

Note:

If parcels with subtypes are changed to a parcel type without subtypes, the original subtypes are not transferred.

To change a parcel type, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the parcels to change and click Change Parcel Type Change Parcel Type.
  2. On the Change Parcel Type dialog box, choose the parcel type and if available, choose the parcel subtype.

Parcel subtypes will be available if they exist on the chosen parcel type.

Parcel record

The parcel types of parcels can be changed regardless of whether there is an active record set for the map. When parcels are changed to a different parcel type, the associated record information is not updated.

Historic parcels are not saved when parcels are changed to a different parcel type.

Parcel features

When changing a parcel to a different parcel type, both the parcel polygon and the lines that define the polygon are transferred for the parcel. Attributes in any matching attribute fields (same name and type) will be transferred to the parcel type.

Adjacent parcels of the same parcel type and with the same associated record can share boundaries. There can be a single parcel line between these adjacent parcels.

Adjacent parcels of different parcel types will each have their own boundaries. There will be overlapping lines between these adjacent parcels.

When changing a parcel type, parcel features are transferred as follows:

  • Points are not transferred.
  • If the parcel being changed shares a boundary with an adjacent parcel of the same type, the original boundary will remain for the adjacent parcel. A new boundary will be added for the parcel being changed to a different parcel type.
  • If the parcel being changed has overlapping boundaries with an adjacent parcel of the same type, the boundary that is associated with the same record as the parcel will be transferred to the parcel type.
  • If both overlapping boundaries are associated with the same record and are identical, both lines are transferred to the parcel type for the parcel. You can choose which line to use for the parcel boundary, and delete any redundant lines.
  • After changing the parcel type, overlapping boundaries may result between parcels of the same parcel type and record. Redundant overlapping boundaries can be deleted.
