A domain network can be added to a utility network at any time after the utility network is created using the Add Domain Network tool. After the domain network is created, it can be configured for use. To learn more about domain networks, see Domain networks.
When a domain network is created, the tier definition for all tiers must be set as hierarchical or partitioned. This property determines the potential topology type of subnetworks in the tiers that will be available when a tier is created. When a domain network is created, the subnetwork controller type is also defined. That is, you define what type of controllers will define subnetworks in the domain network (source or sink).
Requirements
- An existing utility network must be present.
- The network topology must be disabled.
- The Domain Network Name value must be unique in the utility network.
- When working with an enterprise geodatabase, ensure the following:
- The Input Utility Network parameter must be from a database connection established as the database utility network owner.
- The connected ArcGIS Enterprise portal account must be the portal utility network owner.
Add a domain network to an existing utility network
A domain network can be added to an existing utility network when additional systems need to be incorporated. To do so, complete the following steps:
- On the Analysis tab, in the Geoprocessing group, click Tools to open the Geoprocessing pane.
- In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select Add Domain Network.
- For Input Utility Network, choose the utility network to receive the domain network.
- For Domain Network Name, provide a name to identify the domain network and classes that will be created.
The name must be unique and contain 20 characters or less.
- For Tier Definition, choose the definition to be used for the domain network: Hierarchical or Partitioned.
- For Subnetwork Controller Type, choose Subnetwork source or Subnetwork sink.
This controls the type of subnetwork controllers that are added for the entire domain network.
- Optionally provide a name for Domain Network Alias Name.
Providing an alias name will create the domain network feature classes with an alias name.
- Click Run.
The domain network is added to the designated utility network.
