In the Modify Features pane, you can use Move or Vertices to move a topology node when you turn on map topology. Moving a node stretches the connected edges. If your edits create a topological intersection, a node is added at the intersection.
Drag a topology node
Click Move to drag a topology node to a new location. Pressing N while selecting features selects only nodes.
- On the Edit tab, enable map topology, set your snapping preferences, and show the Modify Features pane.
- In the Manage Edits group, click the Topology drop-down arrow and enable Map Topology
- In the Snapping group, enable your snapping preferences.
- In the Features group, click Modify .
- In the Modify Features pane, expand Alignment and click Move .
- Click Edges to select and edit features as topologically connected edges and nodes.

- Select the topology node you want to move.
- Click Select .
- Press N and drag a selection across the node.
- To manage the selection in the pane, do the following:
- To remove a feature from the selection, right-click it and click Unselect , or click Toggle Selection .
- To keep a feature in the selection but temporarily disable editing, uncheck the feature.
- To keep only one feature in the selection, double-click the feature, or right-click and click Only Select This .
- To move the selection anchor and use it to snap the selection to other features, do the following:
- Hover over the selection anchor and press Ctrl. By default, it appears at the center of the selection.
- When the vertex pointer appears, drag the anchor to the location you want to snap to other features.
- Drag the topology node or the selection anchor to the new location.
Coincident edges also move and any edges connected to its endpoints stretch and remain connected.
- On the toolbar, click Finish or press the F2 key to apply your changes.
Note:
If your edits break the topology graph, the message Edit operation failed appears, and your changes are canceled.
Move a topology node by a value
Click Vertices to move a node by a specified distance or to a specified location.
- On the Edit tab, enable map topology, set your snapping preferences, and show the Modify Features pane.
- In the Manage Edits group, click the Topology drop-down arrow and enable Map Topology .
- In the Snapping group, enable your snapping preferences.
- In the Features group, click Modify .
- In the Modify Features pane, expand Reshape and click Vertices .
- Click Edges to select and edit features as topologically connected edges and nodes.

- Select the topology node you want to move.
- Click Select .
- Press N and drag a selection across the node.
- To manage the selection in the pane, do the following:
- To remove a feature from the selection, right-click it and click Unselect , or click Toggle Selection .

- To move the node by a specified distance, do the following:
- Hover over the node until the pointer changes to the move symbol.
- Right-click the node, and click Move .
- Choose a unit format, and type the x, y, and z distances.
- Press Enter.

- To move the node to a specified location, do the following:
- Hover over the node until the pointer changes to the move symbol.
- Right-click the node and click Move to .
- Choose a unit format and type the coordinate location.
- Press Enter.
