Raster Creation geoprocessing functions

Available with Spatial Analyst license.

The Raster Creation geoprocessing functions generate new rasters in which the output values are based on a constant or a statistical distribution.

These geoprocessing functions are useful in determining the distribution of a phenomenon. One example of such an analysis would be analyzing whether known bear sightings are randomly distributed within a study site.

Setting the Output cell size and Output extent in the geoprocessing function will override the values of these settings obtained from the analysis environment.

The following table lists the available geoprocessing functions and provides a brief description of each.

Geoprocessing FunctionDescription

Create Constant Raster

Creates a raster of a constant value within the extent and cell size of the analysis window.

Create Normal Raster

Creates a raster of random values with a normal (Gaussian) distribution within the extent and cell size of the analysis window.

Create Random Raster

Creates a raster of random floating-point values between 0.0 and 1.0 within the extent and cell size of the analysis window.
