You can import and export coordinates in Coordinate Conversion.
Import coordinates
There are two options for importing coordinates to Coordinate Conversion.
Tabular coordinates
You can import tabular coordinates into Coordinate Conversion. You can then export them to generate a feature class, shapefile, .kmz file, or .csv file with values for all of the current output coordinate formats.
To import tabular coordinates, complete the following steps:
- On the ribbon, click the Map tab.
- In the Inquiry group, click Coordinate Conversion .
- In the Coordinate Conversion pane, click the Import button.
- Browse to a .csv, .xls, or .xlsx file containing coordinates and click Open.
The Select Fields dialog box appears.
Note:
When importing an .xls or .xlsx file, the first sheet in the workbook is used as input.
- From the X Field (Longitude) drop-down menu, choose the field from the .csv file that contains the coordinates to be imported.
- Optionally, check the Use two fields check box if your coordinates are in two separate fields. Use the X Field (Longitude) drop-down menu to select the x-value (longitude) field, and use the Y Field (Latitude) drop-down menu to select the y-value (latitude) field.
The Y Field (Latitude) field is unavailable until the Use two fields check box is checked.
The fields from the import tables are listed in the Additional Fields text box.
- Select fields in the Additional Fields text box to import those fields with the data.
- Click OK.
The imported coordinates appear on the map and in the List section.
- In the Coordinate Conversion List section, right-click a coordinate and select Pop-up to view values associated with that coordinate.
List of coordinates
You can paste lists of coordinates into the List section to add them to the map. You can then export them to generate a feature class, shapefile, .kmz file, or .csv file with values for all of the current output coordinate formats.
To import a list coordinates, complete the following steps:
- Copy a list of coordinates from a source, such as an email, chat, report, or another system.
- In the Coordinate Conversion pane, right-click in the List section, and click Paste.
The list of coordinates is added to the List section and points are added to the map at each coordinate location.
Export coordinates
You can collect coordinates from the map and save them as a feature class, shapefile, .kmz file, or .csv file.
