LAS dataset layer properties

You control all aspects of a layer through the layer's properties. General information and display control for a LAS dataset can be found on the LAS dataset Layer Properties dialog box in ArcGIS Pro. Detailed information for each section is below.

To access the LAS dataset Layer Properties dialog box in ArcGIS Pro, right-click the LAS dataset layer in the Contents pane and click Properties.

For detailed information about a LAS dataset, such as statistics, contributing data, and pyramids, use the LAS Dataset Properties dialog box, which can be opened from the Catalog pane.

General

The General tab on the Layer Properties dialog box allows the LAS dataset layer Name and Description parameters to be modified. You can also set the Visibility Range parameter to set the range in which to display the LAS dataset layer.

Metadata

The Metadata tab allows you to add metadata information for the LAS dataset layer.

Source

The Source tab describes Data Source information, which includes the data type, file name, location on disk, number of LAS points, number of LAS files, number of surface constraints, whether the LAS dataset stores a relative path to the LAS files, vertical units, and whether statistics are present and up to date.

The bounding Extent and Spatial Reference information for the LAS dataset is also displayed on the Source tab.

Elevation

The Elevation tab allows you to specify elevation options for the LAS dataset. For additional information on using the options on the Elevation tab, see Define height characteristics for layers.

Selection

The Selection tab is used to specify which points are selectable for the LAS dataset layer. The classification codes that are present in the LAS dataset are listed on the Selection tab. You can choose to make classification codes selectable using the check boxes. This is useful when you are interactively classifying points. For example, you might want to only have the unclassified points set as selectable points in order to reclassify certain features that are currently unclassified points. You can also access the Selection tab by clicking Selectable Points Filter by Selection on the Classification tab under LAS Dataset Layer.

Cache

The Cache tab allows you to specify cache options for LAS dataset layers. For more information about caching, see How caching works.

LAS Filter

The LAS Filter tab provides available lidar point filters that you can apply to the LAS dataset layer in ArcGIS Pro. The lidar point filters that are selected from the Layer Properties dialog box are applied to the LAS dataset displayed either as points or as a TIN surface. The Classification Codes, Return Values, and Classification Flags settings can be used to filter the lidar points for visualization and analysis. Use the check boxes to turn points on or off. You can also access the LAS Filter tab by clicking the LAS Points button LAS Points on the Appearance tab under LAS Dataset Layer. See Change filter options for a LAS dataset for more information.

Surface Constraints

The Surface Constraints tab lists all of the surface constraints that the LAS dataset is referencing. You can turn the surface constraints on or off using the check box next to the listed surface constraint.

You can also access the Surface Constraints tab by clicking the Surface Constraints button Surface Constraints on the Appearance tab under LAS Dataset Layer. See Change filter options for a LAS dataset for more information.
