Filter and search for templates

The Manage Templates pane Manage Templates contains commands for creating, configuring, and deleting feature templates. Layers for the current project appear in the layer viewer. Templates defined for the selected layer appear in the template viewer.

Filter and sort templates

Filtering the template list shows only the templates that create features on specific layers. Group templates are filtered by the primary template target layer.

Note:

When a filter is enabled, it changes to this icon Filter Enabled.

Create Features

The Create Features pane contains templates defined for the active map. In addition to filtering by geometry and layer type, you can show templates for group and composite layers that are checked visible in the Contents pane.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click Create Create Features.
  2. Click Filter Filter, click Filter By, and click a filter.
    • Point—Shows templates for point feature layers.
    • Line—Shows templates for polyline feature layers.
    • MultiPatch—Shows templates for multipatch feature layers.
    • Polygon—Shows templates for polygon feature layers.
    • Annotation—Shows templates for annotation feature layers.
    • Z Aware—Shows templates for only z-enabled feature layers.
    • Group—Shows group templates.
    • Preset—Shows preset templates.
    • Contents Selection—Shows templates for layers checked in the Contents pane as visible.
    • Contents Selection by Group—Shows templates for group layers and composite layers checked in the Contents pane as visible.
    • No filtering—Shows all feature templates.

Manage Templates

The Manage Templates pane contains templates defined for all maps in the current project. In addition to filtering by geometry or layer type, you can show templates for layers that are editable, or layers for which feature templates exist or do not exist.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click the Manage Templates dialog box launcher Launcher.
  2. Click Filter Filter, click Filter By, and click a filter.
    • Point—Shows only point feature layers and templates.
    • Line—Shows only polyline feature layers and templates.
    • MultiPatch—Shows only multipatch feature layers and templates.
    • Polygon—Shows only polygon feature layers and templates.
    • Annotation—Shows only annotation feature layers and templates.
    • Z Aware—Shows only z-enabled feature layers and templates.
    • Group—Shows only feature layers with group templates.
    • Preset—Shows only feature layers with preset templates.
    • Editable Layer Only—Shows only editable feature layers and templates.
    • Layer with Templates Only—Shows only feature layers with templates.
    • Layer without Templates Only—Shows only feature layers with no templates.
    • No filtering—Shows all layers and templates.

Search

Searching templates shows only the templates that contain the text you type in the search box. You can search for specific tagged keywords or text within a name or description field. Search criteria is not case sensitive.

  1. In the Search text box Find, type a keyword or text that is stored with a template.
    • To clear your search entry, click Delete Delete.
  2. To reuse a recent search entry, click the Recent Searches drop-down arrow and click it.
    • To clear your search history, click Clear History.
Note:

Your search history remains available in the drop-down list until you clear it or close the project.

Group

Group settings sort the template list by geometry type, by layer, or alphanumerically.

  1. Click Filter Filter, click Group By, and click the sorting method.
    • Geometry Type—Groups templates by the geometry type they create.
    • Layer—Sorts templates by the layer on which they create features.
    • No Grouping—Sorts templates in alphanumeric order.
