Modify sketch geometry

To modify sketch geometry before finishing a feature, right-click a vertex, a segment, or another feature. You can add or remove vertices, change a segment to a line, an arc, or a Bezier curve, or replace a sketch with geometry from an existing feature.

Modify vertices

To modify a sketched vertex, right-click the vertex and click the corresponding command.

  1. If a sketched line or polygon is not currently active, create one using a line or polygon feature template construction tool.
  2. Hover over the vertex until the vertex pointer appears.
  3. Right-click the vertex, and click one of the following commands:

    Add Vertex Add

Adds a vertex with the same x-, y-, z- and m-values as the right-clicked vertex.

    Delete Vertex Close

    Deletes the right-clicked vertex.

    Move Delta XYZ

Moves the right-clicked vertex by the specified x, y, z distances.

    Move To Absolute XYZ

Moves the right-clicked vertex to the specified x, y, z location.

    Reverse Direction Reverse Direction

Changes the direction of a sketch. The first vertex in the sketch becomes the last vertex.

Trim Before Trim Beginning To Vertex

Deletes all vertices in a sketch from the start vertex to the right-clicked vertex.

Trim After Trim End To Vertex

Deletes all vertices in a sketch from the right-clicked vertex to the end vertex.

  4. To finish the feature, click Finish Finish, or press the F2 key.

Modify segments

To modify a sketched segment, right-click the segment and click the corresponding command.

  1. If a sketched line or polygon is not currently active, create one using a line or polygon feature template construction tool.
  2. Hover over the vertex until the vertex pointer appears.
  3. Right-click the vertex, and click one of the following commands:

    Add Vertex Add

Adds a vertex at the right-clicked location.

    Change segment

Changes the right-clicked segment to a line, an arc, or a Bezier curve.

    Reverse Direction Reverse Direction

Changes the direction of a sketch. The first vertex in the sketch becomes the last vertex.

    Note:

This command is available only with line feature sketches.

    Change Length Trim to Length

Changes the total length of a sketched line to the specified value.

    • A positive value preserves the location of the first vertex.
    • A negative value preservers the location of the last vertex.

    Note:

This command is available only with line feature sketches.

  4. To finish the feature, click Finish Finish, or press the F2 key.

Replace a sketch

To replace a sketched line or polygon with geometry from an existing feature, right-click the existing feature and click Replace Sketch Replace Sketch. The updated sketch appears in the same place as the existing feature.

Sketched polygons can only be replaced with polygon feature geometry. If a suitable feature is not found, the sketch remains unchanged. When existing features are coincident, the geometry of the topmost visible feature is used.

  1. If a sketched line or polygon is not currently active, create one using a line or polygon feature template construction tool.
  2. Right-click an existing line or polygon feature, and click Replace Sketch Replace Sketch.
  3. To finish the feature, click Finish Finish, or press the F2 key.

The new feature is the current selection.
