In the Modify Features pane, Update COGO updates the direction and distance attributes of a COGO-enabled line feature to match the selected feature geometry. When ground to grid is turned on, the calculated values are rotated and scaled by the current correction settings.
You can choose to overwrite all existing direction and distance attributes or only update them when the new calculated value exceeds the current value by a specified tolerance. You can also preserve radial distance values for circular arcs and only update the arc length attribute.
Tip:
You can edit COGO feature attributes directly in the Attributes pane. The Direction attribute includes a drop-down menu that allows you to type values in the quadrant bearing format. To learn more, see Edit feature attributes.
- On the Edit tab, in the Corrections group, click Ground To Grid and verify your ground to grid settings.
To learn more, see Turn ground to grid corrections on or off.

- To update distance attributes, check Distances and click one of the following options. When ground to grid correction is turned on, the calculated value is scaled by the distance factor.
- Update all values—Updates all distance attributes.
- Update by a value difference tolerance—Updates attributes only when the new calculated value exceeds the current value by the specified tolerance.
- Click the Distance difference tolerance text box and specify the tolerance. To update only the attributes that are currently null, set the tolerance to zero (0).
