Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the Indoors extension.
ArcGIS Indoors allows you to create and manage data and share maps and services in support of the following apps: Indoor Space Planner, Indoor Viewer, ArcGIS Indoors for iOS, and ArcGIS Indoors for Android.
Space Planner is a browser-based app that allows you to plan occupant activity in an indoor space. For example, Space Planner allows you to plan the work locations for employees on a corporate campus. Space Planner also allows you to assign people to individual spaces, or to activity-based work areas, called hotels or hot desks.
The Indoor Viewer, Indoors for iOS, and Indoors for Android apps allow you to find a location or resource within a facility or a site that includes several facilities. You can view detailed information about features, route between features, book meeting rooms or office hotels, call or email occupants, and launch apps such as ArcGIS Survey123 to log issues or configure work orders.
Indoors allows you to curate the data, author maps, and share them to ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online, where Indoor Viewer, Space Planner, Indoors for iOS, and Indoors for Android can access them.
Required software
One of the following is required:
- The latest version of ArcGIS Enterprise for a portal connection
- An ArcGIS Online organization
Set up Indoors
To use the Indoors tools, you need to configure an ArcGIS organization connection on Enterprise or ArcGIS Online that is licensed for Indoors.
Note:
If using Enterprise, ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 or later is required.
Complete the following steps to set up Indoors tools:
- License ArcGIS Indoors in Enterprise or ArcGIS Online.
- Connect to your ArcGIS organization in ArcGIS Pro.
Note:
The ArcGIS Indoors product data installation package is available from My Esri. This includes support and configuration files necessary to successfully run the Indoors tools, and downloading it is recommended.
Create floor plan data
Establishing an indoor GIS begins with creating the floor plan. This process can be mostly automated using geoprocessing tools available with ArcGIS Indoors. At a high-level, this process includes:
- Create the Indoors geodatabase or indoor dataset.
- Georeference source data.
- Import or digitize floor plan features.
A floor plan consists of feature data that defines the boundaries of your site (campus), facilities (buildings and other structures), levels (floors), units (occupiable spaces), and details (walls, doors, and other features) and is the basis for visualization in floor-aware maps. Your floor plan can be further enhanced later by adding additional floor-aware layers that include features such as occupants, events, work orders, or assets.
Create a routable network
Optionally, you may choose to enhance your indoor GIS with a routable network to support navigation. At a high level, this process includes:
- Create the indoor network dataset.
- Generate pathways.
- Generate floor transitions.
- Thin the indoor pathways.
- Create landmark points.
- Rank pathways.
- Connect buildings and make any final network feature updates.
- Create the final network dataset.
- Optionally, add route barriers.
Map authoring
The map authoring process is different based on which app will be used to deploy ArcGIS Indoors.
Indoor Viewer
You'll need to prepare a map and, optionally, a scene to use in Indoor Viewer.
Indoors for iOS or Indoors for Android
You'll need to create a mobile map package to use with ArcGIS Indoors for Android or ArcGIS Indoors for iOS. Optionally, configure device tracking for a mobile device.
You can also configure your database for issue reporting with ArcGIS Survey123.
Indoor Space Planner
You'll need to prepare a map to use in Space Planner.
Share to your Enterprise portal
Once your map, and optional scene, is ready, you'll need to share it as a web map to your Enterprise portal so that Indoor Viewer and Space Planner can access it. Additional configuration in the apps is required.

Share to ArcGIS Online
Once you have prepared your map and optional scene, you can share it as a web map to ArcGIS Online so that Indoor Viewer and Space Planner can access it. Additional configuration in the apps is required.
