Delete a network rule

Network rules are stored at the utility network level and can be deleted using the Delete Rule tool.

Take caution when deleting rules that support existing features and objects in a utility network. Network features that rely on deleted rules are marked with errors when the network topology is reenabled to indicate there is no rule to support the relationship.

There are five types of rules that can exist within a utility network:

  • Junction-edge connectivity
  • Edge-junction-edge connectivity
  • Junction-junction connectivity associations
  • Structural attachment associations
  • Containment associations

You can view the rule base for a utility network in the network properties.

Requirements

To delete a connectivity or association rule, the following requirements must be met:

Delete network rules

To delete a network rule, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Analysis tab, click Tools Tools to open the Geoprocessing pane.
  2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and click Delete Rule.
  3. For the Input Utility Network parameter, enter the utility network you want to remove the rule from.
  4. From the Rule Type drop-down list, choose the specific type of rule to delete.
    • All—Deletes all rules for the entire utility network
    • Junction-junction connectivity
    • Junction-edge connectivity
    • Containment
    • Structural attachment
    • Edge-junction-edge connectivity
  5. If a specific rule type is selected in the previous step, a Rules drop-down list is available.
  6. Choose a specific rule you want to remove or click All to delete all rules for the Rule Type chosen.
  7. Click Run.

An individual rule or multiple rules are removed from the utility network's rule set. To reflect this change in the network, enable the network topology.

Tip:

When working with an enterprise geodatabase, network rules are managed through a database connection to the default branch version. The utility network service should be stopped before you add or delete a network rule. Changes are acknowledged after the service and ArcGIS Pro session have been restarted. Updates to the utility network rules are not reflected in existing named versions until a reconcile operation is performed.
