Locate isolating features

You can locate isolating features in your network using the Trace tool with the Isolation trace type. To learn more, see Utility network trace types.

An isolation trace is a subnetwork-based trace that travels a network based on traversability. To learn more, see Connectivity and traversability.

Note:

The Isolation trace type requires ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7 or later.

Requirements

To perform an isolation trace, the following requirements must be met:

  • The network topology must be enabled.
  • One or more starting points must exist.
  • When working with an enterprise geodatabase, the Input Utility Network parameter must be from a utility network service.
  • A Filter Barrier must be specified in the trace configuration.

Trace isolating features

  1. Ensure the utility network is available in an active map view and click the Data tab under Utility Network on the ribbon.
    Utility Network contextual tab set

The Utility Network Data tab is activated.

  2. Ensure that one or more starting points exist in the map view. In the Tools group, click the Trace Locations command to open the Trace Locations pane. Set Starting Points and Barriers to use in the trace.
  3. On the Data tab, in the Tools group, click Isolation in the tools gallery.
    Tools group

The Trace tool opens for the utility network in the active map using the specific Trace Type.

  4. To refine the traceable area, specify the Domain Network and Tier that you want to trace.
  5. Apply additional configuration parameters as needed. For Isolation trace types, the Include Isolated Features parameter can be used to include the features that are traversable from the starting point or points to the isolating features.

Reference the Trace tool for a list of tool parameters. Also see Configure a trace.

  6. Apply a Filter Barrier in the Filter section of the trace configuration.

This is required for an Isolation trace type.

  7. Click Run.

A set of isolating features are returned as a result selection set.
