ArcGIS Pro can be purchased as a stand-alone application, as part of an application bundle, or as part of the ArcGIS Desktop suite of applications. Different licensing options are available depending on how you purchase the product.
Types of ArcGIS Pro licenses
By default, ArcGIS Pro is licensed with a Named User license that is managed through an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise organization. If you purchase ArcGIS Pro as a stand-alone application, or as part of an application bundle, this is the only license type available.
If you purchase the ArcGIS Desktop suite, ArcGIS Pro uses the Named User license type by default. However, in this case, it is possible to convert the Named User licenses to Single Use or Concurrent Use licenses. An ArcGIS Desktop license is either Single Use or Concurrent Use based on your preference at the point of purchase. ArcGIS Pro Named User licenses can be converted to the same license type as the corresponding ArcGIS Desktop license and authorized with that license type. License conversion workflows are described in Convert Named User licenses to Single Use and Convert Named User licenses to Concurrent Use.
For an overview of each license type, see ArcGIS Pro license types. For more detailed information, see the following topics:
ArcGIS Pro license levels
An ArcGIS Pro license can be purchased at one of three levels of functionality:
- Basic
- Standard
- Advanced
If ArcGIS Pro is purchased as part of the ArcGIS Desktop suite, all applications in the suite have the same license level. For example, if you purchase an ArcGIS Desktop advanced license, you have an ArcGIS Pro advanced license, an ArcMap advanced license, and so on.
For more information, see ArcGIS Pro license levels.
License duration
ArcGIS Pro licenses are renewed annually along with your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise organization. Without the organization to manage the licenses, ArcGIS Pro cannot be licensed. It is necessary to stay current with an Esri Maintenance Program to receive product updates and technical support, and to keep your ArcGIS organization active.
If ArcGIS Pro is purchased as part of the ArcGIS Desktop suite, its license duration depends on the license duration for the suite. ArcGIS Desktop licenses can be subscription or perpetual. A subscription license must be renewed annually. A perpetual license allows you to use the application indefinitely. If the ArcGIS Desktop license is perpetual, ArcGIS Pro Concurrent or Single Use licenses that are converted from Named User licenses can also be perpetual.
For more information, contact Esri Customer Service or your local distributor.
Extension product licenses
ArcGIS Pro extension products integrate seamlessly with desktop applications to provide specialized functionality. If an extension is purchased as part of the ArcGIS Desktop suite, it can be authorized to work with ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, or both if the extension is available for both applications. (Some extensions may be specific to one application.) However, the extension products are licensed separately. The extension license for ArcGIS Pro cannot be used for ArcMap and vice versa. In addition, the extension license must have the same license type as the core product with which it is used. Extensions authorized with a Named User license cannot be used with a Concurrent Use or Single Use license. For more information about ArcGIS Pro extension products, see ArcGIS Pro extensions.
