On the context menu for editing, Perpendicular locks the direction of a new line segment perpendicular to another segment of an existing feature. It is available when you create a new polyline or polygon feature or edit a finished feature with Continue Feature .
Perpendicular
To constrain a segment perpendicular, create at least one vertex, right-click the existing segment, and click Perpendicular , or hover over the existing segment and press the E key. To remove the constraint, press the Esc key.
Note:
If you have created at least one vertex, skip to step 5.
- On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click Create .
The Create Features pane appears and displays a list of feature templates.
- Click a polyline or polygon feature template.
The template expands and displays feature construction tools.
- Click Line or Polygon .
- Create the first vertex using one of the following methods:
- Click the map.
- Right-click and click Absolute X,Y,Z , type the values on the dialog box, and press Enter.
- Constrain the new segment perpendicular using one of the following methods:
- Right-click the existing segment and click Perpendicular .
- Hover over the existing segment and press the E key.
The direction of the new segment locks parallel to the existing segment. To remove the constraint, press the Esc key.
- Create the second vertex and complete the segment using one of the following methods:
- Click the map.
- Right-click and click Distance , type the distance, and press Enter.
- When you finish creating the feature, right-click and click Finish or press the F2 key.
