Customize ArcGIS Pro with geoprocessing tools

You can save a custom set of geoprocessing tools in your user profile and in your projects so that tools you commonly use can be found efficiently. You can customize ArcGIS Pro with both ArcGIS system tools and custom tools that you've built or that others have shared with you.

You can also configure the ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar with geoprocessing tools you want to access from those locations. Customization of the ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar is saved in your user profile so applies to all the projects you use on your machine.

You can configure the following with custom sets of geoprocessing tools:

  • The Analysis Tools gallery
  • Geoprocessing pane Favorites tab
  • Project Toolboxes
  • Any ribbon tab, including existing ribbon tabs and new custom ribbon tabs
  • The Quick Access Toolbar

Analysis Tools gallery

You can add geoprocessing tools to the Tools gallery on the Analysis ribbon tab.

To add a tool to the gallery, right-click a tool in the Geoprocessing pane and select Add To Analysis Gallery. Additionally, you can expand the gallery and select Customize to modify the groups and tools contained in the gallery.

Favorites

You can add and remove tools from the Favorites tab of the Geoprocessing pane. The Favorites tab lists the following tool favorites:

  • My Favorites—Tools that are recorded in your user profile and will be listed regardless of the open project.
  • Project Favorites—Tools that are specific to your open project. When you create a project, several commonly used tools are included by default.

To add a tool to one of the favorites lists, right-click a tool in the Geoprocessing pane or Catalog pane and select Add To My Favorites or Add To Project Favorites. A tool can be in both favorites lists if you choose to add it to both. To remove a tool from a list, right-click the tool in the list and select Remove.

Project toolboxes

You can add a toolbox containing tools important to a project to the project Toolboxes, which is a shortcut to the toolbox referenced in the project.

Project toolboxes

To add a toolbox to your project, right-click a toolbox in a folder or database connection and select Add To Project. You can also click Project > Toolbox > Add Toolbox on the Insert ribbon tab.

You can add toolboxes as a project favorite to provide a shortcut to the toolbox regardless of your open project. Project favorites are listed in the Favorites tab of the Catalog pane. To add a toolbox as a favorite, right-click a toolbox in a folder or database connection and select Add To Favorites Favorites.

Customize the ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar

You can add geoprocessing tools to any ribbon tab and to the Quick Access Toolbar. You can customize these locations with ArcGIS system tools as well as custom model and script tools that have been added to your project. This customization is stored in your user profile and applies to any project you open.

To add a tool to the ribbon, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Project > Options > Customize the Ribbon
  2. Under Choose commands from, select Popular Geoprocessing Tools or All Geoprocessing Tools.
  3. Select the tool you want to add, or type in the search bar and select the tool from the search results list.
  4. Select the ribbon tab and group where you want to add the selected tool from the list of Tabs on the right.
  5. You cannot add geoprocessing tools to a built-in ribbon tab groups, only to custom groups on those tabs. Use the buttons New Tab or New Group to create a location on a new or existing ribbon tab to add geoprocessing tools.

  6. Click the Add button.

To add a tool to the Quick Access Toolbar, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Project > Options > Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Under Choose commands from, select Popular Geoprocessing Tools or Geoprocessing Tools.
  3. Select the tool you want to add, or type in the search bar and select the tool from the search results list.
  4. Click the Add button.
