Evaluate Z Values

Summary

The Evaluate Z Values check returns features with z-values that fall within specified parameters.

Overview

A z-value usually indicates the elevation of a feature in relation to the ground surface. If features from a feature class should be populated with relatively similar values for elevation, you can run the Evaluate Z Values check to ensure that the elevations are within an expected range of values. You can run the check on an entire feature class, a subtype, or a set of features selected using an SQL query. Features with z-values that fall within the specified range are returned.

The operation used to determine the threshold for z-values. Any features whose elevation values match those defined in the rule are returned as an error.

  • is equal to—The z-value is equal to the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value of 10 are returned as results.
  • is not equal—The z-value is not equal to the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value of 8, 12, or any other value that is not equal to 10 are returned as results.
  • is less than—The z-value is less than the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value less than 10 are returned as results.
  • is less than or equal to—The z-value is equal to or less than the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value of 10 or less are returned as results.
  • is greater than—The z-value is greater than the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value greater than 10 are returned as results.
  • is greater than or equal to—The z-value is equal to or greater than the elevation value specified. For example, if the value is 10, features with a z-value of 10 or more are returned as results.
  • is between (including bounds)—The z-value is between or equal to the elevation value specified in the Lower Bound (minimum) and Upper Bound (maximum) text boxes. For example, if the lower bound is 1 and the upper bound is 10, features with a z-value of 1 through 10 are returned as results.
  • is between (excluding bounds)—The z-value is between the elevation value specified in the Lower Bound (minimum) and Upper Bound (maximum) text boxes. For example, if the lower bound is 1 and the upper bound is 10, features with a z-value greater than one and less than 10 are returned as results.
  • is not between (including bounds)—The z-value is not equal to or between the elevation value specified in the Lower Bound (minimum) and Upper Bound (maximum) text boxes. For example, if the lower bound is 1 and the upper bound is 10, features with a z-value less than 1 or greater than 10 are returned as results.
  • is not between (excluding bounds)—The z-value is equal to or not between the elevation value specified in the Lower Bound (minimum) and Upper Bound (maximum) text boxes. For example, if the lower bound is 1 and the upper bound is 10, features with a z-value of 1 or less or 10 or greater are returned as results.

Additional input is required if you choose an operator with upper and lower bounding values.

Keep the following in mind when using the check:

  • A vertical coordinate system must be defined for the feature class used with this check.
  • The Attribute filter parameter is limited to comparison (=, <>, >, <, >=, <=) and logical (AND/OR, IN/NOT IN, LIKE/NOT LIKE, IS NULL) operators.
