Keyboard shortcuts for working with tables

The following list of keyboard shortcuts can help you save time and be more productive when working with tables and the table view. In most cases, the table view must be active to use the shortcuts. If a shortcut can be used in more than one capacity, the shortcut for the cell takes priority.

Open and close tables

Use these keyboard shortcuts to open and close tables.

Ctrl+T or Ctrl and double-click a layer or table name

Open the attribute table for the selected layer or stand-alone table from the Contents pane.

Ctrl+F4

Close the active table.

Navigate in the table

Use these keyboard shortcuts to move around in the table.

Tab

Go to the next column.

If at the end of a row, go to the first cell in the next row.

Shift+Tab

Go to the previous column.

If at the end of a row, go to the last cell in the previous row.

Enter

Go to the next row in the same column.

Home or Ctrl+Left arrow

Go to the first cell in a row.

End or Ctrl+Right arrow

Go to the last cell in a row.

Ctrl+Home

Go to the first row, first cell.

Ctrl+End

Go to the last row, last cell.

Up arrow key, Down arrow key, Left arrow key, Right arrow key

Go in the direction of the arrow key.

Ctrl+Up arrow

Go to the first row in the same column.

Ctrl+Down arrow

Go to the last row in the same column.

Ctrl+Mouse wheel

Increase or decrease the scale of the table.

Ctrl+0

Reset the scale of the table back to 100 percent.

Shift+Mouse wheel

Scroll the table window horizontally.

Ctrl+G

Display the Go to row number control.

Ctrl+F

Display the Find and Replace commands.

Keyboard shortcuts for navigating tables and the table view

Edit and interact with the table

Use these keyboard shortcuts when you're editing or interacting with the table.

Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert

Copy the value in a cell onto the clipboard.

Ctrl+Shift+C

Copy the selected records onto the clipboard.

Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert

Paste the contents of the clipboard into a cell or range of cells.

F2

Edit the contents of a cell.

Enter

Commit the current edit.

Esc

Cancel the edit in the cell and restore the original value.

Shift+Enter

Insert a new line or multiple lines while editing.

Ctrl+Enter

Open a hyperlink.

Keyboard shortcuts for editing and interacting with tables. When editing, a pencil icon appears in the first cell on the left of the row you're editing. The cell is also outlined in bold, dark green.

Select in the table

Use these keyboard shortcuts to make selections in the table.

Ctrl+A or Shift and click upper left cell

Select all records.

Ctrl+Spacebar

Select or deselect the active row.

Ctrl+Enter

Move to the next record and select it exclusively.

If more than one row is selected, the move occurs from the row with the active cell. This is particularly useful when working sequentially through a table, reviewing or editing each record, and looking at the feature it represents on the map.

Ctrl+U or Ctrl and click upper left cell

Switch the selection.

Shift+Down arrow or Shift+Up arrow

Continuously select records.

Records are deselected if you switch arrow keys while pressing Shift.

Ctrl+Shift+A or click upper left cell

Clear the selection.

Shift+Enter

Go to the previous row in the same column and select it.

Work with fields

Use these keyboard shortcuts to work with fields in the table.

Ctrl+Shift+U

Remove field sorting.

Ctrl+Shift+S

Open the Custom Sort dialog box.

Ctrl+double-click

Hide the field.

This action works on a single field only. To hide multiple field columns in a table at once, press the Shift key while clicking to select multiple fields. Then, right-click a field name and click Hide Field.

To show all fields again without opening the field's view, click the menu button Menu at the top of the table view and click Show All Fields. Any hidden fields turn back on and become available in the table view and on other dialog boxes.

Ctrl and click

Select individual, separate fields.

Shift and click

Select all fields between the first and second click.

Ctrl+Shift+N

Switch between showing field names and aliases.

Interact with the map or scene from the table

These keyboard shortcuts apply to the active feature selected in the table and the view. This allows you to interact with the map or scene directly from the table.

The active feature is the row with a bolded line in the first cell on the left, which contains the cell that is outlined and shaded. To change the active feature, move the pointer to a different row by clicking or using the keyboard. The active feature may be different than the selected feature, in which the entire row is colored cyan (the default selection color).

Zoom the view to the selected features.

Ctrl+8

Flash the active feature in the view.

Ctrl+N

Pan the view to the active feature and flash it.

Ctrl+Equal sign (=)

Zoom the view to the active feature and flash it.

Double-click the gray cell to the left of a record.

Zoom to and select the feature.

Ctrl and double-click the gray cell to the left of a record.

Pan to and select the feature.

Ctrl+P or Ctrl+I

Open the pop-up for the active feature.
