Set cartographic realignment options

Available with Location Referencing license.

You can set cartographic realignment options for use with ArcGIS Pro editing tools in a feature service. These options are on the Location Referencing tab in the Carto-realignment group.

Note:

You can use the tools on the Edit tab, such as the Move tool Move, to update calibration. Editing is provided for feature services only.

Cartographic realignment options

Set one of the following cartographic realignment options in the Carto-realignment group on the Location Referencing tab before doing cartographic realignment steps.

The cartographic realignment configuration option that is set when cartographic realignment begins is applied to calibration points in the cartographically realigned section. Calibration is updated only for intermediate calibration points that are within the edited section and according to the cartographic realignment option that is set when the edit is performed.

OptionDescription

Proportionally Snap Proportionally Snap

Use this option to snap calibration points to the updated route. Proportionally Snap is the default snapping configuration. This snapping option is the only snapping option available in file geodatabase data, as well as in traditionally versioned data that uses a direct connection.

Ignore Ignore

Use this option to ignore calibration points located on the cartographically realigned area.

Note:

Ignore is available only in feature services.

When Ignore is set, calibration points remain in place when a route edit is performed. Subsequent edits are required to complete the cartographic realignment by manually moving calibration points to their new location.

Delete Delete

Use this option to delete calibration points located on the cartographically realigned area.

Note:

Delete is available only in feature services (using the Edit tab, Features group, Delete button Delete).

When Delete is set as the snapping option, calibration points are deleted during cartographic realignment. Subsequent edits are required to complete the cartographic realignment with calibration equivalent to calibration found prior to the edit.

Cartographic realignment options scenario

The following scenario demonstrates the differing outcomes of a cartographic realignment for each of the three cartographic realignment options on the Location Referencing tab, in the Carto-realignment group.

The underlying centerline for Route1 has been modified in the following image, but the cartographic realignment has not yet taken place. Route1 has three nonequidistant, intermediate calibration points that fall within the cartographic realignment section. Only calibration points in the edited section are updated using the configured option after cartographic realignment.

Note:

If Update route measures in cartographic realignment is enabled for the LRS Network using the Modify Network Calibration Rules tool, the route length may change, in which case the measures are updated during cartographic realignment. If Update route measures in cartographic realignment is disabled, the measures are not updated during cartographic realignment even if the route length changes.

Route1 before cartographic realignment

If Proportionally Snap Proportionally Snap is the configured cartographic realignment option before the route edit, the intermediate calibration points snap proportionally to the new location of their respective measures when the route edit occurs.

If Update route measures in cartographic realignment is disabled for the network, the measures are not updated after cartographic realignment.

Route1 after cartographic realignment when proportional snapping is the configured cartographic realignment option and update measures is disabled for the network

If Update route measures in cartographic realignment is enabled for the network, a calibration point is added at the start of the cartographic realignment section and the measures of all calibration points downstream from it are updated.

Route1 after cartographic realignment when proportional snapping is the configured cartographic realignment option and update measures is enabled for the network

If Ignore Ignore is the configured cartographic realignment option before the route edit, the intermediate calibration points do not move when the route edit occurs.

Route1 after cartographic realignment when Ignore is the configured cartographic realignment option

If Delete Delete is the configured cartographic realignment option before the route edit, the intermediate calibration points are deleted when the route edit occurs.
