Introduction to the SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC)

SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC) is a standard that provides a common structure for exposing and cataloging data such as Imagery, SAR, Point Clouds, Data Cubes, Full Motion Video, and more, from data providers. STAC enables access to different formats of spatial data and provides a common way to find more information about a geographic location over a period of time.

The STAC connection allows you to view the collections and items contained in different cloud stores within a single STAC API. You can use cloud storage connection files and connect to STAC in the Search STAC Items pane to search the collections, locate the datasets, and use them in ArcGIS Pro. You can select items from the catalog, add them as layers to the Contents pane and map, and add them to a mosaic dataset for further analysis. Once content from cloud stores is added to ArcGIS Pro, it is presented, managed, and processed consistently with other layers and content in ArcGIS Pro environment.

The three main components of STAC are Item, Catalog, and Collection.
