Application selection options customize default settings and other preferences for selection tools that interactively select features for editing. To configure these options, click the Options dialog box launcher on the ribbon Edit tab, in the Selection group.
This topic is a quick reference for setting selection options most used most when editing feature data.
Tip:
Always use the selection tool that is included with an editing tool in the Modify Features pane and in the Attributes pane. These selection tools include specialized functionality that works with the active tool.
Show the selection chip
The Selection Chip icon appears near the pointer when you select coincident or overlapping features and displays a list on which you can select the feature you are editing. This option is enabled by default.
- On the ribbon, click the Edit tab and click the Options dialog box launcher in the Selection group.
The Options dialog box appears.
- Click the Selection side tab.
- Check the Show the selection chip check box.
- Click OK.
Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.
Select crossing or contained features
The interactive selection mode option allows you to set selection tools to select all features that intersect a selection shape or select only 2D features that are wholly contained by a selection shape.
- On the ribbon, click the Edit tab and click the Options dialog box launcher in the Selection group.
The Options dialog box appears.
- Click the Selection side tab and scroll down to the Interactive selection mode section.
- Choose one of the following settings:
- Partial within —Select features that are partially or completely within the selection shape. This is the default.
- Wholly within (2D only) —Select only 2D features that are completely contained by the selection shape.
- Click OK.
Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.
