Message: Layer cannot be edited with an unknown coordinate system

This message appears on the Editing Status dialog box.

Cause

The layer's data source or the map is assigned an unknown coordinate system.

Solution

Set the coordinate system for the map or define a coordinate system for the dataset or feature class using the Define Projection tool.
