Trace network upgrade history

To keep a trace network current with the latest functionality, an upgrade may be necessary. This applies schema changes to the trace network dataset, network feature classes, and other related geodatabase objects. Use the Upgrade Dataset tool to perform the upgrade.

Learn more about the requirements for the upgrade process

An upgrade of the trace network dataset is only needed to take advantage of new functionality introduced through schema changes in the information model. Keep in mind that not every ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise release introduces schema changes and an upgrade is not required when moving to a new version. Upgrading is only required to take advantage of functionality introduced in a new trace network version.

The version of the ArcGIS Pro client and the current trace network version determine whether an upgrade is available for the trace network dataset in a single-user deployment. When working with an enterprise deployment, the version of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise determine whether an upgrade is available as well as the version of the trace network dataset that is created or upgraded.

The upgrade process increments the trace network version number. Upgrades are cumulative between versions and include changes from skipped versions. For example, if you upgrade the trace network from Trace Network Version 2 to Trace Network Version 4, all schema changes for versions 3 and 4 are included.

The table below lists the trace network dataset version upgraded to with each ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise release.

Trace network version when creating or upgrading a trace network dataset with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise versions

Tip:

The version and upgrade history of the trace network can be viewed on the Trace Network tab of the Network Properties dialog box.

Upgrade to Trace Network Version 4

Trace Network Version 4 introduces attribute updates to improve the rendering and labeling of diagram classes. When upgrading a trace network to Trace Network Version 4, the following changes occur:

  • A new text field, Info is added to the TMP_JUNCTIONS, TMP_EDGES, TMP_CONTAINERS, JUNCTIONS, EDGES, and CONTAINERS diagram classes to support joins and advanced labeling and rendering workflows.
  • Two new coded value domains (<trace network name>_<ID>_FeatureSourceID and <trace network name>_<ID>_UpdateType) are added to the geodatabase for use with the SOURCEID and UPDATETYPE fields respectively in the Dirty Areas table.

Upgrade to Trace Network Version 3

Trace Network Version 3 introduces various internal updates to support network diagrams and for compatibility with ArcGIS Pro 3.0.

Upgrade to Trace Network Version 2

When upgrading a trace network to Trace Network Version 2, the following changes occur:

  • A new network attribute named Flow direction is assigned to a new field named FLOWDIRECTION to store and display the flow direction of line features that participate in the network.
    • A new coded value domain (<trace network name>_<ID>_FlowDirection) is added to the geodatabase. This supports the setting and display of flow for edge features in the trace network.
  • The TN_<ID>_TRACECONFIGURATIONS table is added to the trace network schema to support the creation, usage, and sharing of named trace configurations.
