Get started with ArcGIS Production Mapping

Available with Production Mapping license.

The ArcGIS Production Mapping extension optimizes and tailors geographic information system (GIS) production for an organization using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. It is a specification-driven topographic mapping software for national civilian mapping agencies and authoritative content producers.

This extension includes the Topographic Production toolbox, which contains tools to automate the production process from beginning to end through standardization, repeatability, and configuration. A product data file installer is available from My Esri with ArcGIS Production Mapping that installs files to facilitate data creation, feature extraction from imagery, and provide tools for data management, validation, and visualization. This extension enables high-quality, advanced cartographic production with a self-serve, configurable Map Production System web app and web GIS integration.

Production Mapping provides the following capabilities:

  • Consistent workflows—Task-based workflows to ensure consistency across operations. Each workflow is designed as a focused task, allowing a technician to better understand the type of work that is required.
  • Automated generalization—Out-of-the-box generalization models to automate the creation of maps, charts, and data products at any scale based on the unique characteristics of different data themes. The models automate multiscale mapping efforts to produce any output scale of data or cartographic product from a single best-scale database.
  • Cartographic maintenance—Automated map production and cartographic processes to create and manage the production of high-quality printed maps.
  • Data maintenance—Reduce the time to compile and maintain authoritative content. Perform database maintenance and quality control for data. Ensure consistency by capturing and distributing best practices throughout the organization.
  • Production management—Insight on the status of work in an organization. Managers can identify work that is at risk, reassign or reprioritize work, and create new work items.
