Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.
You can generate Indoor positioning data using beacon data and the layout of walls within an indoor environment. This method, known as survey-less IPS, is an innovative approach that simulates Bluetooth signal propagation throughout an indoor space. Contrary to the classic survey-based method of generating indoor positioning data, survey-less IPS does not require conducting an IPS Survey and is only available for Bluetooth-based ArcGIS IPS deployments.
Consider the following prerequisites before generating indoor positioning data for your managed facilities using the survey-less method:
- Create walls: You must create wall features for your facilities. The wall features should represent as accurately as possible the physical extent of the walls in the facilities where ArcGIS IPS will be deployed.
- Create beacons: You must create point features in the IPS_Beacons feature class to represent the precise locations where Bluetooth beacons are installed within the indoor environment. For optimal performance, it is crucial that the beacon data accurately reflects both the physical placement and configuration of the beacons throughout the facility.
- Create IPS areas: You must define polygon features denoting the indoor areas where you want to enable indoor positioning.
Once the necessary features are created, you can generate a survey-less Indoor Positioning Dataset.
Note:
If you are using an ArcGIS IPS Information Model from ArcGIS Pro 3.2 or earlier, it is recommended that you update to the latest version to benefit from enhanced functionality and support. However, if you cannot update because you are using an app that does not support the latest ArcGIS IPS Information Model, you can generate a positioning file using the Generate Indoor Positioning File Without Survey tool. This tool is available in the Classic toolset of the Indoor Positioning toolbox.
