Make a map IPS-aware

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.

To enable IPS-awareness in a map, you can associate it with an existing Indoor Positioning Data Service published to your ArcGIS organization. This enables the map to be used with ArcGIS IPS for positioning during routing and enables snapping the position indicator to pathways in the map during indoor navigation.

To configure a map as IPS-aware, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Open an existing Indoors map or create a new map.
    Note:

For maps containing multiple floors, consider configuring floor-awareness to enhance the user experience.

  3. In the Contents pane, right-click the map and click Properties.

The Map Properties dialog box appears.

  4. Click Indoor Positioning on the side of the dialog box.

The Indoor Positioning properties tab is only available to IPS-licensed users.

  5. Click Set Data Source in the Data Source section.

The Choose one or more items with subtypes dialog box appears.

  6. In the active portal, browse the available Indoor Positioning Data Service items, and select the item that contains positioning data for the map.

    Note:

If you want to disable IPS awareness in the map, click Clear to remove the selected Indoor Positioning Data Service.

  8. Click Apply to apply the changes, and click OK to close Map Properties.
  9. Save the map.
    Note:

If you are updating an existing web map, click Save Web Map on the Share tab to update the properties of the web map. You must restart all apps that use the web map for the modified indoor positioning map properties to take effect.

The Indoor Positioning Data Source is saved to the map and persists when the map is shared or packaged.
