Add a named trace configuration

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

Named trace configurations are created using the Add Trace Configuration tool. These allow you to create complex traces that can be reused in ArcGIS Pro and shared across an organization through web maps and consumed by web and field applications.

Requirements

• The Input Utility Network parameter value must be version 5 or later.

• When working with an enterprise geodatabase, the input utility network must be from a utility network service.

• The connected portal account is set as the creator of the named trace configuration when working with an enterprise geodatabase.
  • The creator of a named trace configuration controls access to share and make modifications to the configuration in an enterprise geodatabase.

    Note:

    When working with an enterprise geodatabase, the active portal user account is set as the creator when a named trace configuration is created. The creator of a named trace configuration is important when working with an enterprise geodatabase because it controls access to share, modify, and delete trace configurations in the network. Only the portal utility network owner and portal users in the Administrator role can work with all named trace configurations in a utility network. Other portal accounts can share, modify, and delete only the named trace configurations they create.

Follow these steps to create a named trace configuration in the utility network:

1. On the Analysis tab, in the Geoprocessing group, click Tools to open the Geoprocessing pane.
2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select Add Trace Configuration.

   The tool is located in the Trace Configuration toolset of the Utility Network toolbox.

3. For Input Utility Network, specify a utility network.
4. For Trace Configuration Name, specify a name for the named trace configuration.
5. For Description, optionally provide a description for the named trace configuration.
6. For Tags, optionally provide user tags to identify the named trace configuration.
7. Apply additional configuration parameters as needed.
   Reference the Trace tool for a full list of tool parameters.
8. Click Run.
A new named trace configuration is added to the Input Utility Network.

Named trace configurations created in a utility network can be consumed in ArcGIS Pro with the Trace geoprocessing tool or by using the Named Configurations tab in the Trace pane. When working in an enterprise deployment, these can also be shared through a web map and consumed by web and field apps.
