The Replace Sketch command replaces the active sketch of a line or a polygon feature with the geometry of an existing feature. This command is available on the context menu with editing template construction tools, the Continue Feature tool , and the Replace Geometry tool .
When you replace sketch geometry, consider the following:
- A line sketch can be replaced with line or polygon feature geometry. If you right-click overlapping line and polygon features, the line feature geometry is used.
- A polygon sketch can be replaced only with polygon feature geometry.
- When you finish an edit, the resulting new shape is drawn coincident with the source feature from which the geometry was taken.
To replace sketch geometry, complete the following steps:
- In the Modify Features pane, click the Continue Feature tool or Replace Geometry tool .
The active tool appears in the Modify Features pane.
- Click the line or polygon feature containing the geometry to be replaced.
Alternatively, click an editing template for a line or polygon feature layer and create at least one vertex.
The sketch geometry for the feature appears.
- Right-click the existing source feature containing the geometry that is to replace the sketch geometry and click Replace Sketch .
The right-clicked source geometry replaces the sketch geometry and is drawn coincident with the source feature.
- Click Finish , or press the F2 key.
The finished sketch is the currently selected feature.
