Available with the ArcGIS Indoors Pro or ArcGIS Indoors Maps extension.
Indoor data creation involves a process that can be mostly automated using geoprocessing tools available with ArcGIS Indoors. Data creation for Indoors involves creating an Indoors workspace, georeferencing source data, importing or digitizing floor plan features, and reviewing the data quality. Each of these steps is described further in the sections below.
Create the Indoors workspace
You can create the Indoors model elements by doing either of the following:
- Use the Create Indoors Database tool to create an Indoors workspace that contains the fields and tables required for floor plan mapping, routing, space planning, and workspace reservations.
- Use the Create Indoor Dataset tool to create an indoor dataset for basic floor plan mapping. The indoor dataset includes a streamlined schema that does not include some of the fields and tables required by Indoors Space Planner, Indoors Viewer, and the Indoors mobile apps by default.
Georeference source data
Floor plan data must be georeferenced before it is loaded into an Indoors workspace. You can georeference CAD drawings and BIM models in ArcGIS Pro. For other data such as point clouds, refer to your vendor's documentation for guidance on georeferencing the data.
Import floor plan features
You can load floor plans using the following geoprocessing tools in the Indoors toolbox:
- Import CAD To Indoor Dataset—Import floor plans from .dwg files or .dgn files.
- Import BIM To Indoor Dataset—Import floor plans from Autodesk Revit .rvt files.
- Import IFC To Indoor Dataset—Import floor plans from .ifc files.
- Import Features To Indoor Dataset—Import floor plans from polyline data.
You can use the following geoprocessing tools to generate polyline data for use with the Import Features to Indoor Dataset tool:
- Generate Floor Plan From Point Cloud—Generate polyline data from LAS point cloud data.
- Extract Floor Plan Features From PDF—Extract polyline features from PDF data.
Review data quality
Once you load floor plans to the Indoors workspace, you can perform data quality review to ensure that the data was imported correctly, conforms to the Indoors model, and meets your organizational needs. Indoors includes a collection of validation attribute rules to check data for common and critical errors. You can add new rules or modify these rules based on your needs.
