This topic includes tips for configuring a presentation for full screen display to ensure all appropriate content is shown and performance is optimized.
Set the screen aspect ratio
Before presenting, consider what aspect ratio is best for the pages to fit the display screen. The default screen ratio is 16:9 and is the most commonly used. Other aspect ratios compatible with certain hardware or specialized options can be used. Set the appropriate aspect ratio to avoid unintended distortion or cropping issues.
To set the aspect ratio, do the following:
- On the Presentation tab in the Page Setup group, in the Aspect Ratio drop-down menu, click the screen size aspect ratio.
- Optionally, click Customize to configure a different ratio on the Custom Aspect Ratio dialog box.
The last three custom entries are saved in the list.
- To view the screen size aspect ratio with the corresponding page size values and units, click the Page Setup Options dialog box launcher
in the lower corner of the Page Setup group to open the Presentation Properties dialog box.
Choose the full screen display monitor
Full screen displays your page taking up the entire screen. Depending on your hardware configuration, you might be using multiple monitors or a projector to display the presentation. You can set the full screen display to use the monitor of your choice. By default, a full screen presentation uses what is set in the display settings of your operating system as the main monitor. Use the Full Screen drop-down menu to choose the full screen display monitor. Monitors are listed using their device name. If you are using presenter mode, which uses two displays to show the full screen presentation to the audience on one screen and uses the other screen for the presenter providing a preview of upcoming pages and speaker notes, presenter mode will display on the next available monitor after what is set for the full screen display.
Note:
If you only have one monitor, and presenter mode is checked, presenter mode will display instead of full screen mode. Presenter mode is intended for a dual monitor configuration but it can be used on a single display, for example, to practice the presentation.
Decide the playback experience
Pages in full screen can be presented manually or automatically with a preset timed configuration. It is helpful to consider which experience works best for your situation. Manual allows you to control when you advance to the next page by using the keyboard or mouse. Alternatively, to ensure a specific duration for the presentation, you can set page properties to automatically advance the pages after a set amount of time.
Preload maps
Preload the maps and scenes in the presentation before entering full screen mode to improve playback performance. This is most applicable if the presentation contains map pages sourced from multiple maps and scenes in the project. The Preload Maps button
is enabled only when it has detected maps that need to be preloaded.
Refresh all thumbnails
On the Page Order view of the Contents pane for a presentation, each page thumbnail refreshes when the page is viewed at full extent. If you have added a group of pages and not seeing the thumbnails update, you can force all page thumbnail previews to refresh. Right-click a page in the Contents pane and click Refresh All Thumbnails. This captures the most recent preview of each page. It also ensures an accurate state of the presentation when using the presenter mode display of full screen. For example, in presenter mode, you can click Tiled View to show all the pages in the presentation so you can jump to a page out of sequence. Having the most up-to-date thumbnails will help keep you on track so that you are selecting the correct page to switch to.
