Work with export presets

Use export presets to save export settings for reuse. Export presets are files with an .xprt file extension. They are available in the Export gallery. Use them to open the Export pane with the same file type and settings each time. You can create custom preset files to add to the gallery or to share. Export presets are available for both map and layout exports.

Use export presets

To use an export preset, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Share tab, click the lower half of the Export Map Export Map or Export Layout button Export Layout to open the preset gallery.
  2. Select a preset from the gallery to open the Export pane with the preset settings applied or click the Open preset button Browse to browse to a preset using a file path.

Create export presets

To create an export preset, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Share tab, click the upper half of the Export Map Export Map or Export Layout button Export Layout to open the Export pane.
  2. In the Export pane, select a file type from the File Type drop-down list.
  3. Adjust the settings of the selected file type for the preset.
  4. Click the Save Preset button to open the Save Preset dialog box.
  5. On the Save Preset dialog box, provide a name for the preset in the Name text box.

By default, the Location option is set to the folder for the preset gallery.

  6. Optionally, use the Browse button Browse to choose a different location to save the preset file.

If a new location is chosen, the preset does not appear in the preset gallery.

Note:

Security and map series settings are not included in presets, even if those options are available for the export type.

Default exports

The following default export presets are available for layouts:

Layout exports

NameDescriptionExample Use Case

Default AIX

Basic settings for creating an .aix file to further edit in Adobe Illustrator using the ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud extension.

Give the layout to a graphic designer to further refine it with the ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud extension.

Flattened PDF

Settings for a PDF document in which all vector data is rasterized, reducing the file size. Vector-specific capabilities for the PDF document, such as turning on and off layers, aren't available.

Email the layout to a coworker or customer to open and view. This is preset usually produces the smallest size PDF.

GeoReferenced PDF

Settings for a PDF document in which the final output is georeferenced, meaning the map coordinates are available in the PDF document.

Share the layout with someone so they can access the coordinates while viewing the PDF.

GeoTIFF

Settings for a TIFF image in which the final output is georeferenced, meaning the map coordinates are available. If there are multiple maps on the layout, select which map will be used for georeferencing, as .tiff files only support one set of coordinates.

Give the layout to someone to use as a raster layer in another project.

Vector PDF

Settings for a PDF document that includes vector capabilities such as turning on and off layers and is georeferenced.

Provide the layout to someone to view different combinations of layers in the PDF. This also contains coordinates for them to reference.

Web JPEG

Settings for a simple JPEG image that can be uploaded to the web or otherwise shared.

Upload the layout to a website.

Manage the export gallery

To view the export presets default folder, click the Project tab, click Options, and click the Share and Download tab. Additionally, you can set the gallery to reference a different folder containing export presets. Updating the folder location is useful for organizations in which many users need to access the same export preset files.
