Share a video layer

With ArcGIS Pro, you can share stand-alone videos as video layers Video layer to ArcGIS Enterprise 12.0 or later. Video layers allow you to work with video content within a geographic context, making them especially useful in monitoring remote locations. Video layers can be added to a map or scene in ArcGIS Pro or opened in ArcGIS Excalibur.

To share a video layer, you must have the following:

  • An account that is part of an ArcGIS organization with the privilege to create content
  • An account with privileges to publish video layers
  • A portal with a federated ArcGIS Video Server site

You can continue to work with ArcGIS Pro while your sharing job is processing. You can also close ArcGIS Pro. You can monitor the status of your sharing job in the Job Status pane.

Share a video layer using the default configuration

To share a stand-alone video with file formats such as .mpg or .ts from a map or scene, complete the steps below. To change the default configuration, see Configure a video layer.

  1. In the Contents pane, select a video. Right-click the selected video, point to Sharing, and click Share As Web Layer .

    The Share As Web Layer pane appears.

  2. Provide a name for the web layer.
  3. Optionally, complete the Summary and Tags fields.

    You can use the Tags drop-down menu to select existing tags. You can enter a maximum of 128 tags.

  4. Optionally, use the Categories drop-down menu to assign content categories.

    You can assign a maximum of 20 categories.

  5. Under Location, use the Portal Folder menu to choose a folder in your portal content to store the web layer. Optionally, create a folder.

    By default, the web layer is stored at the root level of your portal content.

    Tip:

    Click the Browse button Browse to browse to a folder in your portal content. You can also type a folder name in the text box.

  6. Under Sharing Level, specify how the web layer will be shared:
    • Owner—Only the owner (and organization members with privileges to view content owned by other members) can access the item. This is the default option.
    • Organization—Share your content with all authenticated users in your organization. This option is available when you are signed in with an organizational account.
    • Everyone (public)—Share your content with the public. Anyone can access and see it.
    1. Optionally, under Groups, select groups to which you belong to share your content with their members.
  7. Optionally, click the Content tab to view the folder and new web layer.
  8. Under Finish Sharing, click Analyze Identify potential performance bottlenecks and errors to review for potential problems.

    Errors and warnings are listed on the Messages tab. Right-click a message to open its help topic or take corrective action in the software. Errors Error must be resolved before you can share your GIS resource. Resolving warnings Warning is recommended but not required.

  9. After you resolve errors, and optionally, resolve warnings, click Publish Publish to share the web layer.
  10. Optionally, click Jobs Open Job Status Pane to monitor the job status.
  11. When the web layer is successfully published, click the Manage the web layer link at the bottom of the pane to access the web layer in your portal.
