You can use geoprocessing services in ArcGIS Pro in the Catalog pane by making a direct connection to your ArcGIS Server. There are two ways to add a new ArcGIS Server connection:
- In ArcGIS Pro, on the Catalog tab, in the Project pane, right-click anywhere in the pane and select New ArcGIS Server Connection to open the connection window.
- In ArcGIS Pro, on the Insert ribbon tab, choose the Connection ribbon and choose New ArcGIS Server to open the connection window.
Provide the server URL in the Server URL field. Without providing login credentials, there is a new server connection item with the .ags extension and User connection type added under Servers in the Project pane. If you want to consume geoprocessing services that are shared to everyone, this type of connection is sufficient.
To consume the service, do the following:
- Double-click the new ArcGIS Server connection to enable it.
- Expand the service and double-click the tool. This tool opens in the Geoprocessing pane. If the tool accepts parameters, provide values for the parameters and click Run.
Depending on the tool, the output result may be added automatically to a map or scene (if you have one open). Other tools may not provide geographic output, such as text, numbers, or files. In this case, you need to check the tool run messages in the Geoprocessing History.
Tip:
A service that returns feature or raster data makes a copy and places it in your project's default geodatabase after the tool successfully runs. This is an automatic process. The feature or raster data is transferred from the service, and your session of ArcGIS Pro increases the local file name by one to ensure data is not overwritten.
Interactive feature input with geoprocessing services
A geoprocessing service can also support interactive feature input. The usage of the interactive feature input is slightly different than that in ArcGIS Pro. For detailed usage, refer to web tool and geoprocessing service interactive feature input.
