Modify calibration points

Available with Location Referencing license.

ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing uses a simple feature class to store route calibration points for calibrating routes.

You can edit and modify route calibration points using the Edit tool Edit on the Location Referencing tab in the Calibration Points group, or the Move tool Move on the Edit tab in the Tools group.

The Edit tool Edit can also apply downstream recalibration to a route where a calibration point is modified. Pipeline Referencing automatically calibrates the route it references. This tool also allows you to edit calibration points on a route and update their start date, retire date, and measure.

Measure value and temporality editing scenarios

You can update the start date, retire date, and measure of a calibration point using the Edit tool Edit on the Location Referencing tab in the Calibration Points group. This tool also applies downstream recalibration to a route when a calibration point is edited.

With downstream recalibration

The following scenario is an example of route calibration with downstream recalibration:

When the tool is run, the calibration point is edited, downstream calibration points have calibration updated, and the route is recalibrated.

Edit the measure and temporality of a calibration point

To edit the measure and temporality of a calibration point on a route, complete the following steps:

  1. Add the LRS feature classes, including the calibration point feature class, to a map.

    Alternatively, open a map in which the LRS feature classes are present.

  2. Click the Location Referencing tab.
  3. In the Calibration Points group, click the Edit tool Edit.
    Note:

    Traditionally versioned networks must be edited through a direct connection to the geodatabase. Branch-versioned networks, including networks configured with a user-generated route ID, must be edited through a feature service.

    Note:

    You can edit the measure of a calibration point using an attribute editing tool, in which case the route's measures are recalibrated between the nearest upstream and downstream calibration points of the edited calibration point.

  4. Select an existing calibration point on the map.

    The Edit Calibration Point pane appears with attributes for the selected calibration point populated.

  5. Change the From Date and To Date values when this calibration is applied to the route.
  6. Change the measure value of this calibration point.
  7. Optionally, check the Recalibrate route downstream check box to recalibrate the route downstream.

    When this check box is checked, recalibration is applied to downstream calibration points along the route.

    For example, if an existing calibration (or measure) at the location where you want to edit a calibration point is 5, and the next downstream calibration point at the end of the route has a measure of 10, changing a measure of 5 to 6 with the Recalibrate route downstream check box checked results in a downstream calibration point with a measure of 11.

    When this check box is unchecked, no recalibration is applied to the downstream calibration points along the route.

    For example, if an existing calibration (or measure) at the location is changed from 5 to 6, leaving the Recalibrate route downstream check box unchecked results in the downstream calibration point maintaining a measure of 10.

  8. Click Run.

    Calibration on the route is updated.

Edit calibration points

To move a calibration point using the Move tool Move, complete the steps below.

When a calibration point is moved, the measure of the calibration point changes based on its new location on the route, and the route's measures are recalibrated between the nearest upstream and downstream calibration points of the moved calibration point.

  1. Add the LRS feature layers, including the calibration point and network feature layers, to a map.

    Alternatively, open a map in which the LRS feature layers are present.

  2. Zoom in on the calibration point you want to move.
  3. Optionally, on the Location Referencing tab, in the Calibration Points group, click the Event Behavior arrow and include or exclude event behaviors for manual calibration edits.
    • Exclude event behaviors for manual calibration edits Exclude Event Behaviors—Ignore event behavior in subsequent manual edits.
    • Include event behaviors for manual calibration edits Include Event Behaviors—Include event behavior in subsequent manual edits.
  4. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click Modify Modify Features.

    The Modify Features pane appears.

  5. In the Modify Features pane, expand the Alignment node, and click Move Move.
    Tip:

    If you've used the Move tool Move recently, a shortcut for the tool appears on the Edit tab in the Tools group.

  6. Close the Move tool.
  7. Click the calibration point that you want to move.

    The selected calibration point is highlighted.

  8. Drag the calibration point to the new location on the route.
  9. Click anywhere on the map outside the selection to complete the move.

    After the move, the calibration point measure remains the same.

    The Project tab appears on the ribbon.

    Tip:

    You can use Undo Undo and Redo Redo on the ArcGIS Pro ribbon to evaluate the success of the move.

  10. On the Edit tab, in the Manage Edits group, click Save Edits Save Edits.
