The Add Connectivity Associations rule is used to add explicit edges to the diagram that represent connectivity associations for both the from and to junctions that are currently represented in the diagram.

Add Connectivity Associations rule process

Connectivity associations are not drawn by default in a network map. The Add Connectivity Associations rule allows you to generate diagrams in which connectivity associations are systematically drawn each time the related from and to junctions are present in the diagram at the time the rule runs. They display as straight diagram edges between the from and to diagram junctions they connect.

Because this rule works from the junctions present in the diagram at the time it runs and adds connections to the diagram graph, it is recommended that you set up the Add Connectivity Associations rule on the template rule sequence as follows:

  • After any Expand Container rule, since this rule may add new network feature junctions or junction objects to the diagram, which could be from and to junctions of connectivity associations.
  • Before any Reduce Junction or Collapse Container rules—since these rules modify the graph of the generated diagrams, it is strongly recommended that the initial diagram graph they start working on be complete with regard to the network topology.

Caution:

Running the Add Connectivity Associations rule is time consuming. It is recommended that you consider the rule sequence you want when configuring a template and add this rule only when the completeness of the graph is not guaranteed. For example, if your template model starts with a Trace rule that already ensures completeness of the graph when it runs, there is no reason to specify an Add Connectivity Associations rule in the list.
