Set options for saving edits

Application options for saving edits include settings for automatic saves, displaying dialog boxes for saving and discarding edits, and deactivating a tool after committing your edits. These options are available on the Options dialog box on the Editing side tab.

If these settings are locked, consult your system administrator.

Save automatically

To set ArcGIS Pro to automatically save edits at recurring time intervals or after a specified number of operations, or to turn off this option, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Edit ribbon tab, click the Options dialog box launcher Launcher in the Manage Edits group.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Click the Editing side tab and expand Session.
  3. Check the Automatically save edits check box.

To turn this option off, uncheck this setting.

  4. Choose one of the following recurring save cycles and type a numeric value:
    Time interval (minutes)

Save edits when the timer reaches the specified elapsed minutes between 1 and 1440.

    Note:

The timer starts after the first edit operation, and resets after each save.

    Number of operations

Save edits when the counter reaches the specified number of operations between 1 and 100.

    Note:

The counter starts after the first edit operation, and resets after each save. The Undo Undo command decrements the counter. Conversely, Redo Redo increments the counter.

  5. Click OK.

Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.

Save edits with project saves

To automatically save edits when the project is saved or to turn off this option, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ribbon, click the Edit tab and click the Options dialog box launcher Launcher in the Manage Edits group.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Click the Editing side tab and expand Session.
  3. Check the Save edits when saving a project check box.

Display dialog boxes to save or discard edits

To display a dialog box and click Yes or No each time edits are saved or discarded, or to turn off one or both of these dialog boxes, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Edit ribbon tab, click the Options dialog box launcher Launcher in the Manage Edits group.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Click the Editing side tab and expand Session.
  3. Check the Show dialog to confirm save edits check box.

This is the default setting. To turn off this dialog box, uncheck this option.

  4. Check the Show dialog to confirm discard edits check box.

This is the default setting. To turn off this dialog box, uncheck this option.

  5. Click OK.

Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.

Deactivate the active editing tool

To automatically deactivate the active editing tool when you save or discard edits and run the default tool for editing, or to turn off this option, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Edit ribbon tab, click the Options dialog box launcher Launcher in the Manage Edits group.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Click the Editing side tab and expand Session.
  3. Check the Deactivate an active editing tool when saving or discarding check box.

  4. Click OK.

Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.
