Configure a preset template

After you create a preset template, configure the tool palette, specify the default attributes applied to new features, and move the insertion anchors to locations that help rotate and snap the features into place. These settings are available in the Template Properties dialog box.

Preset template property settings appear on the following side tabs:

Preset templates use point construction tools to add, rotate, and snap the features into place using the active snap settings.

Features in the template and the attribute values applied to them.

Note:
  • Features are identified by the display field layer property setting. If the field is null, the OBJECTID field value is shown.
  • To remove a feature from the template, hover and click the Remove button Remove. Removing a feature doesn't update the location of the insertion anchor.

Select a template

Select a template in the Manage Templates pane and click Properties Properties.

  1. On the ribbon, click the Edit tab. In the Manage Edits group, click Manage Templates Manage Templates

    Alternatively, click Manage Templates Manage Templates in the Create Features pane.

    The Manage Templates pane appears.

  2. In the layer view, expand Map Map View and click the layer for which the template is defined.

    The associated templates appear in the template view.

  3. In the template view, click the template.
  4. Click Properties Properties on the template view toolbar,.

    Alternatively, right-click the template and click Properties Properties.

    Tip:

    To change the properties of an active template in the Create Features pane, right-click the template and click Properties Properties. This command is also available in the Active Template view on the Options menu Menu.

Configure the tool palette

On the Tools side tab, show or hide the tools that appear on the tool palette and choose which tool automatically runs when the template is activated.

  1. Click the Tools side tab.
  2. Hover over the Click to set as default tool buttons and enable one tool to run automatically when the template is active.
  3. Hover over the Toggle tool visibility check boxes and check the tools you want to appear on the tool palette.

Specify attribute values

On the Features side tab, click the feature in the Features view and type the attribute values in the Attributes view. Field values are saved with the template.

You can type the values or right-click the field and set it to the geodatabase default value or restore it to the value last saved with the template, or get a unique value contained in the source attribute table.

Caution:

In this release of ArcGIS Pro, preset templates do not support attribute fields for raster data, attachments, or binary large objects (BLOBs).

  1. Click the Features tab.

    The feature in the template appear in the Features view, and attribute fields for the selected feature appear in the Attributes view.

  2. Click the feature in the Features view for the attributes you are changing.
  3. In the Attributes view, click a field and type a value.

    Click the drop-down arrow for fields constrained by coded domains, or click the Choose Symbol Class button Add all values for fields that symbolize the layer.

    Tip:

    Hover over the field name to view the data type, default geodatabase value, and other field properties.

    Alternatively, use the following methods to change a value:

    Right-click the field and click Set To '<Null>' NULL.

    Set the value to Null if the field accepts null values.

    Right-click the field and click Revert Undo.

    Restore the field value to the value defined in the template property settings.

    Click the Options menu Menu and click Revert Undo.

    Restore all field values to the values defined in the template property settings.

    Right-click the field and click Get Unique Values.

    Note:

    This command is not available for field values constrained to an attribute domain.

    Choose a value currently stored in this field.

    Right-click a field with an existing value and click Copy Copy. Right-click the field you are overriding and click Paste Paste.

    Note:

    These commands are not available for field values constrained to an attribute domain.

    Copy and paste a value from an existing field.

  4. Click OK.

    Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.

Field color codes

If a field or a field border is highlighted or shaded, the color indicates a specific status or how the field value is defined. The color codes are described in the following table:

Field colorDescription

Orange shading

This is the subtype field.

Purple shading

This symbolizes the layer.

Yellow shading

The Highlight property is enabled in the Fields view.

Gray border

The field is read-only and can't be edited.

Green border

The field is not using the geodatabase default value.

Blue border

The field is using the geodatabase default value.

Yellow border

The field value is an invalid entry for the optional contingent values assigned to the field.

Red border

The field value is an invalid entry for one of the possible reasons:

Attribute field color codes

Set the insertion anchors

On the Preview tab, move the primary and secondary insertion anchor to locations that help the anticipated workflow to effectively add the features to a map, rotate them, and snap them into place.

  1. Click the Preview tab.

    The pointer defaults to the Pan tool Point.

  2. In the viewer window, click Zoom to Extents Full Extent.

    The features the template creates appear in the window with an insertion anchor. The anchor defines the insertion point for the features when they are added to a map and snaps to other features based on the active snap settings.

  3. To move the insertion anchor, hover over the anchor and drag it when the pointer changes to the Move cursor Move.

    The anchor snaps to feature geometry in the viewer using the active snap settings.

  4. To show and set the secondary anchor, hover and snap the pointer to the target location and press the S key.

    The secondary anchor is used with the Point with rotation construction tool Rotate Preset to snap the rotation angle to other features. The primary anchor serves as the center of rotation.

  5. To reset both anchors, click the Reset button Reset on the preview toolbar.

    This command restores the primary anchor to the default position and clears the secondary anchor.

  6. Click OK.
