Create a preset template

Preset templates are created in the Manage Templates pane with the Preset Template from selected features command New Preset Template. This command is available on the template view toolbar when features are selected in the active map.

This topic contains steps to create a preset template, name it, and add optional descriptive metadata. For steps to show or hide construction tools, move insertion anchors, or specify attribute values, see Configure a preset template.

When you create a preset feature template, consider the following:

  • You can choose any layer in the layer view with a selected feature for which you want to associate the template.
  • By default, the primary insertion anchor is placed at the center (centroid) of the envelope for the entire selection set. It is viewable and movable on the Preview side tab.
  • The preset template symbol Preset Template that appears with its name is assigned by ArcGIS Pro and can’t be changed.

To create and name a preset template, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ribbon, click the Edit tab. In the Manage Edits group, click Manage Templates Manage Templates.

Alternatively, click Manage Templates Manage Templates in the Create Features pane.

    The Manage Templates pane appears.

  2. On the ribbon Edit tab, click the Select tool Select in the Selection group.
  3. Select the features in the map in the same arrangement in which you want to add them to a map when you use the template.
  4. In the Manage Templates pane, click a layer in the layers view on which one of the selected features exist.

You can choose any layer with selected features. The resulting template is associated with the selected layer.

The editing templates currently defined for the selected layer appear in the template view of the pane.
