Create a table template

Table templates are created in the Manage Templates pane Manage Templates. Commands are available on the template view toolbar and when you right-click a table in the layer view. Additionally, ArcGIS Pro automatically generates templates for newly added tables if they don't exist in the current project.

This topic includes steps for creating a table template, naming it, and adding optional descriptive metadata. For steps to configure the tool palette and specify the default attributes applied to new rows, see Configure a table template.

Generate a template automatically

If you add a table to a map for which no table templates exist in the current project, ArcGIS Pro automatically creates them with a name and default settings and tag keywords. If a table contains subtypes, one template for each subtype value is generated.

To add a table to a map and automatically generate its table templates, complete the following steps:

  1. On the ribbon View tab, click Catalog pane Catalog Pane in the Windows group.

    The Contents pane appears.

  2. Click the Project tab.
  3. Expand the Databases folder Databases and find the data.
  4. Drag the stand-alone table to the active map.

Alternatively, right-click the table and click Add to Current map Add To Current Map.

    Tip:

If templates are not automatically generated for a new table, delete all templates for the layer.

Create a template for a selected table

To create a table template for a table, select the table in the layer view, and click New > Template New Template on the template view toolbar.

  1. On the ribbon Edit tab, click Manage Templates Manage Templates in the Manage Edits group.

Alternatively, click Manage Templates Manage Templates in the Create Features pane.

    The Manage Templates pane appears.

  2. Click the table in the layer view.
  3. Click New > Template New Template on the template view toolbar.

The Template Properties dialog box appears.

  4. On the Template Properties dialog box, click the General side tab.

The name and optional descriptive metadata typed on this tab is searchable in the Create Features and Manage Template panes. Search words are not case sensitive.

  5. Type a name in the Name field. This field is required.
  6. Type optional descriptive metadata in the following fields:

    Field nameDescription

    Description

Type a description or the purpose of the template. This field is optional.

    Tags

Type one or more optional keywords that allow you to classify or filter the template with the Arrange Templates filter Filter in the Create Features and Manage Template panes.

    • ArcGIS Pro automatically adds a tag for the template type.
    • To delete a tag, click the Delete button Delete next to the tag keyword.

  7. Click OK to save the settings and close the dialog box.

Create a template based on a selected record

To create a table template based on the record of a selected feature in the Attributes pane, right-click the record in the selection view and click New Template From Record New Template from Feature.

  1. On the ribbon Edit tab, click Attributes Attributes in the Selection group.

    The Attributes pane appears.

  2. Click the Select tool Select in the Attributes pane and select a feature containing a record in the table.
