Type attribute values for new features

When you create a feature using an editing template, you can type attribute values and override the default template values. To do this, click the Active Template button Forward that appears with the tool palette for the active template.

While the Active Template view is open, the current values are also used by editing tools that reference the template to create other features. For example, using the Buffer tool Buffer while this view is open creates features with the current attribute values.

When you type attributes values for new features, consider the following:

  • Activating a different template while the Active View is open reverts the attribute values for the deactivated template to its default values.
  • Typing attribute values in fields that appear below the tool palette in the main view override template values in the Active Template view.
  • To create a copy of the active template with updated values, click the Options menu Menu and click Save As Save Edits.
  • To change the default values of the active template or show a field as a prompt in the main view, click the Options menu Menu and click Properties Properties.

Tip:

After you finish a feature, you can continue editing attribute values in the Attributes pane. By default, a finished feature is automatically selected until you change the selection.
