Configure follow feature settings

On the Edit tab, in the Tools group, the Editor Settings dialog box launcher provides access to settings for editing tools that create or modify annotation that follows the edge of a line or a polygon. It is also available on the context menu when you create or edit annotation.

These settings are saved with the application.

Feature-linked settings

Follow feature settings enable or disable the automatic following of annotation features to their related feature when you create or move them with editing tools.

Note:

These settings do not change the relationship to which the annotation is linked.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Tools group, click the Editor Settings dialog box launcher Launcher.
  2. Click the Annotation tab and expand Follow feature.
  3. Change one or more of the following settings:
    • Automatically follow linked line features—When enabled, feature-linked annotation automatically follows its related line feature. This is the default setting.
    • Automatically follow linked polygon features—When enabled, feature-linked annotation automatically follows its related polygon feature.

Placement settings

Placement settings determine how the annotation is constrained and placed along a feature when you drag the text.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Tools group, click the Editor Settings dialog box launcher Launcher.
  2. Click the Annotation tab and expand Follow feature.
  3. Change one or more of the following settings:
    • Side cursor is on Cursor side—Constrains annotation to the same side as the cursor.
    • Left Left side—Constrains annotation left side relative to the direction of the feature.
    • Right Right side—Constrains annotation right side relative to the direction of the feature.
    • On Line On the line—Annotation is placed on top of the feature.
