Slice a multipatch feature

In the Modify Features pane, Slice Multipatch Slice Multipatch splits a multipatch feature at a specified location using a horizontal or a vertical cutting plane. You can choose to keep the features as they are or automatically generate the resulting missing faces and create closed features.

This tool is available only with Local and Global scenes.

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Features group, click Modify Modify Features.

    The Modify Features pane appears.

  2. Expand Divide and click Slice Multipatch Slice Multipatch.

    The tool opens in the pane.

  3. Click Active Select Active Select, and select the multipatch feature you want to slice.

    The slice multipatch toolbar appears at the bottom of the scene.

    Note:

    By default, the move and rotate alignment tools are turned on. You can use them together or turn them on or off individually as you align the cutting plane.

  4. To create a horizontal cutting plane, do the following:
    1. Click Horizontal
    2. Click the multipatch feature where you want to locate the horizontal cutting plane.

    The active alignment tools appear at the location you clicked, and the feature renders with two colors that preview where the cutting plane is slicing the feature.

  5. To create a vertical cutting plane, do the following:
    1. Click Vertical.
    2. Click the multipatch feature where you want to locate the vertical cutting plane.
    3. Move the pointer vertically and click the feature again to define the axis of the cutting plane.

      The active alignment tools appear at the location you clicked, and the feature renders with two colors that preview where the cutting plane is slicing the feature.

  6. To adjust the angle and pitch of the cutting plane, click and drag the pointer along one of the circular controls on the rotate tool.
  7. To move the cutting plane, click and drag the conical anchor that appears on the move tool axis.
  8. Choose to keep the feature as it is or generate the missing faces.
    • Solid—Automatically generates the resulting missing faces and creates close features.
    • Hollow— Preserves the two features as they are.
    Note:

    Solid only works for multipatch features that completely enclose a volume of space before you slice it. To evaluate or enclose a multipatch feature, use the following geoprocessing tools:
