ENC layers are used to visualize and interact with electronic navigational charts (ENCs). ArcGIS Pro supports ENCs that conform to the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) S-57 standard.
You can use ENC layers to do the following:
- View S-57 data in compliance with S-52 standards and specifications for chart content display.
- View S-57 data in tabular form by object type so you can view object attributes.
- Use S-57 data as an additional data source for situational awareness and decision making.
- Combine S-57 datasets with other sources to inform geospatial analysis.
ENC layers are created from S-57 cells (.000 files), which represent navigational chart data at a particular scale. The data in a single cell corresponds to a single navigational use, such as overview, general, or coastal (a navigational use corresponds to a scale range suitable for a particular use).
ENC layers are symbolized with S-52 symbology, which is accessible from the Symbology pane. It's important to set all symbology options to the same settings when viewing a series of cells in a single map so that the chart view is consistent.
ENC layers support pop-ups that show attribute information for the identified objects. Attributes differ across object types in the ENC layer.
The Data Set Identification (DSID), Data Set Structure Information (DSSI), and Data Set Parameter (DSPM) attributes for each cell are viewable on the Source tab of the Properties dialog box for the layer.
