Configure event replacement

Available with Location Referencing license.

When performing pipeline maintenance, sometimes a section of a pipe is taken out of the ground and is replaced by a new pipe. This process is known as pipe replacement.

During pipe replacement, events on an edited section of a route can be left as is, retired, or retired and replaced according to an event replacement configuration.

Event layers must be categorized on the Configure Replace Events dialog box before event replacement. The measures for the route do not change during event replacement.

Event replacement scenario

The configuration of event replacement requires categorizing the events in the feature service into three categories: As Is, Retire, and Retire and Replace.

Tip:

Point events can only be categorized using Retire.

Before event replacement

The following diagram illustrates a pipeline section before replacement:

Pipe before replacement
Pipeline events before replacement are shown.

Before replacement, the pipe section has eight events, three point events (events 1-3) and five linear events (events 4-8).

A pipe with measures from 0 to 10 exists. Various line and point events are present in the pipe as shown above.

During inspection, it was determined that a section of the pipe between the measures 0 and 5 needs to be replaced on 12/31/2017, as shown below.
