Use neighborhood analysis

In link analysis in ArcGIS AllSource, a neighborhood represents the immediate, direct connections of a node. A neighborhood can include up to three degrees of separation from the source node, which shows the subsequent direct connections of the immediate neighbors.

Perform neighborhood analysis

To perform neighborhood analysis, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Link Analysis Link Analysis on the contextual Link Chart tab to open the analysis overlay window.

To minimize the window, click the arrow at the upper left.

  2. Under Analysis Method, choose Neighborhood.
  3. Under Analysis Type, choose Neighborhood.
  4. Under Analysis Direction, choose one of the following options.

Link charts are directional, and analysis may be different based on the direction selected.

    • All Directions—Performed on incoming and outgoing links
    • Outgoing—Performed on outgoing links only
    • Incoming—Performed on incoming links only
  5. Under Analysis Distance, choose the distance for the neighborhood.
  6. Click Source Source Node and click the source node in the Link Chart view.

The analysis runs and the tabular results appear in the analysis overlay window.

  7. You can interact with the tabular results in the analysis overlay window.
  8. To copy results to the clipboard, click Copy Results Copy in the analysis overlay window.
  9. To clear results, click Clear Results Clear in the analysis overlay window.

Compare neighborhoods

You can compare the neighborhoods to two nodes. Neighborhoods can be expanded to five degrees of separation for both the source and target nodes.
