Rename a geodatabase

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

You can rename file geodatabases, mobile geodatabases, and database connection files in your project. You cannot rename OGC GeoPackage files or most enterprise geodatabases.*

For instructions for mobile geodatabases, see Rename a mobile geodatabase.

*Beginning with enterprise geodatabases in Microsoft SQL Server, you can restore the SQL Server database with a new name. This is done using Microsoft tools, though, and not ArcGIS. For more information, see the blog article Restoring SQL Server databases with a new name.

Rename a file geodatabase

Follow these steps to rename a file geodatabase in ArcGIS Pro:

The file geodatabase must be part of your project for you to rename it.

  2. Click Databases in the Catalog pane, right-click the file geodatabase, and click Rename.
  3. Type a new name and press Enter.

Rename a database connection file

You can rename a database connection file to help you identify the database or enterprise geodatabase the connection file accesses.

  1. Expand the Databases folder on the Project tab in the Catalog pane.
  2. Right-click the database connection file and click Rename.
  3. Type a new name and press Enter.
