Distance or area can be measured from any georeferenced raster dataset, mosaic dataset, or image service. A digital elevation model (DEM) is required if you're making measurements in 3D.
Tip:
The units for these measurements can be changed in the Mensuration Results pane.
Measure distance
The Distance tool measures the distance between two or more points.
To measure distance, complete the following steps:
- Click the layer in the Contents pane.
- Click the Imagery tab.
- In the Mensuration group, click the drop-down arrow to display all the tools, and choose the Distance tool.
- Click two or more points along the feature you're measuring.
- Double-click the last point to stop measuring.
Measure area
The Area tool calculates the area and perimeter of a feature.
To measure area, complete the following steps:
- Click the layer in the Contents pane.
- Click the Imagery tab.
- In the Mensuration group, click the drop-down arrow to display all the tools, and choose the Area tool.
- Click three or more points along the feature you're measuring.
- Double-click the last point to stop measuring.
